@nl:  I like the idea of a travel kit. Have some snacks and reading material. You could also write him a surprise letter and include some pics of you together. It’s hard to know what he can’t and can have because the army is so strict on some stuff. Also try pinterest when it comes time to send carepackages. I have a whole board with just carepackage ideas 🙂

@nl:  I always send cookies with my hubby when he goes to sea. Him and his dept love it. But he never goes for as long as 1 year! I like the idea of a travel kit. Think things for entertainment. And as the PP said, a letter would be great, something from you to read once he left. That would be really special!

I’m not a military wife, but thank you both for your service. However, a very good friend of mine was deployed and I made him a book with pictures and letters his kids wrote, lots of his favorite snacks.

You could journal every day for a week or a month, laminate them and put them in a book so he could read them continually…
