My husband and I are new to the uncle and aunt thing and we’re at a bit of a loss for holidays gifts for our nieces, who are 11 and 13. Anyone with a tween/young teen girl in their life have suggestions? The younger girl loves art and we got her a colored pencil set and some sketching notebooks last year… the older girl is into makeup (and allowed to wear it on the weekends) so we got her a set of makeup brushes. As the holidays roll back around this year, we’re at a bit of a loss! We don’t see them very often but they’re really sweet, considerate girls and we want to make sure they feel included in the holiday celebrations with our side of the family.

I would go to Claires and buy some earring and fun glitter covered items.

For the 11 year old – more art related items! Like maybe a nice easel for her drawings? Or maybe get her an art class certificate? Possibly some paints or a really nice sketchbook – like a leather bound one?
For the 13 year old – makeup would be fun! You could try and get her a makeup ‘set’ like mascara, eye shadow, foundation (not sure what she’s allowed to wear). You could also get her a certificate to go with her mom to get makeovers?

glitterati : I would ask their parents what they’re currently into or what’s on their Christmas list. I can’t keep up with my 12 year old niece’s interests. She gets obsessed with something for a month or so (Hamilton, Minecraft, unicorns…) then it’s on to the next thing. If you don’t think it’s too impersonal, money or gift cards are always nice because then they can spend them how they choose. They can also be paired with a smaller gift of your choosing to give it a more personal touch.

I have a tween daughter who is both artsy and loves makeup. She really loves painting pottery, but it can get pricey, so we don’t do it a lot; I bet your niece would love to do that if there’s a studio nearby.
ColourPop for makeup; decent quality and not terribly expensive.

My niece is 14 and she asked me for a bluetooth shower speaker that syncs to her phone so she can listen to music in the shower. It has lights and is also a radio it’s pretty cool
