Long ago, when I graduated from undergrad I wore gold gladiator sandals. They were cute and sparkly, so a bit fancy, but I could walk comfortably in them. Our graduation was scheduled to be in a garden/lawn, so I was concerned about sinking heels. (I say scheduled–it rained so we had it at the indoor track instead.)

Although I often wore heels to other events I was also terrified of the notion of tripping/falling while negotiating the steps up to and down from the platform to get my diploma. Did not want THAT to be the last memory some of my college friends had of me.

My graduation will probably be held in an area where I’ll have to walk through grass to get to the stage.  I plan to buy some new flats for it.  Or maybe some low-heeled wedges.

I mean….nobody can see your shoes in a sea of graduates wearing robes. I’d wear nice flats or low heels to be comfy. I think you are stressing out for no reason!

@Taeyers:  I voted high heel in a pop of color. Whatever height you are comfortable walking in.

I think it needs to pop a little because it’s the only thing you really see! It’s like you’re in a black potato sack and you need a little something to show your personality 😛

@Taeyers:  Exactly! I’m the same. I have dark dark almost black hair and if it wasn’t for this thing (shawl?) they threw over our shoulders, I would have looked like i was in a BW foto too. Also, because I’m a weird height (5’9″) the gave me the next category up for gowns which was 5’8″ to 6’4″…so this thing was like a tent on me!

    ugh.

@Taeyers:  you’re at 1,111 posts. I just thought that was awesome.

But I SAY: Have fun! You only graduate undergrad once (unless you don’t, and in that case, have fun twice!!!)
