So I am finally splurging for a good haircut (meaning at a real salon and spending more than $15, no Groupon involved LOL) and I’m scheduled for Wednesday. I kind of want a change, but I want to keep my length. I’m thinking of a little more layering/angling than usual and getting wispy side bangs. I want to start experimenting on the side bang now so it can be perfected in time for the wedding next year. I keep googling and only coming up with weird hair models who look terrible. This picture of Reese Witherspoon is the only thing I could find that fits the bill, but I want to see some more examples on real people. Anyone have some really lovely side bangs or haircuts they’d like to show off? I need inspiration pics! Also, any tips of how to describe this to the stylist would be great, because I always seem to say the wrong thing and get something opposite of what I want. Help a bee out! 🙂

This is how mine usually looks. I used Lauren Conrad as an insperation. How long do you want it?

I don’t have a pic as I had mine cut in last week but I have bangs similar to Reese in that photo. I had them once before and learned that I like to have my bangs cut straight across and then just push them over to the side for more of a natural angle so as not to have shorter pieces when I pull them back. I think this works best as I can not commit to bangs and clip them back quite often, mostly when I don’t straighten my hair as they look rediculous if I let them curl naturally. May be something to think of if you are just getting used to new bangs.

I usually bring in pictures of Kristen Bell when I get my bangs cut! Maybe that will help. She’s had a few different bang styles, but there are a lot of pics of her with the side bangs (I’m pretty sure she had them in the movie When in Rome).

Oh and in terms of what to actually tell your hairstylist (I learned the hard way too.. because I was never getting what I wanted). If you says “bangs” you’ll get something more blunt cut. If you want more of that side swept look, I’m pretty sure the stylist term for it is “fringe”

@dallasbride2012: I love LC.. I got bangs that were longer last time, kinda like hers, and they were always getting in my eyes. I found that I always tended to sweep them behind my ears and then it just looked like I didn’t even have bangs so I was thinking of going a little shorter maybe.
@slicey19: Ah, that makes sense! However, I did get blunt cut bangs before and found that they were at a weird length where they wouldn’t lay right to one side.. maybe I’ll ask the stylist about this.
@mannarose630: Exactly what I was looking for! I’m going to print those out. And I never would have known the magic word was fringe, not bang, thanks!
