I’d make a poll but have no idea where to start. 🙂
I might buy a new top about once a month, but I probably go on a “spree” where I clean out the closet and get fresh seasonal items about three times a year. I usually spendabout $200 on one of these types of trips. If I have a special business trip, I will get a special outfit for that too.
How about you ladies?
I know for me the biggest challenge (and waste of money!) was going through that post-college transitional period where I had to toss a lot of inappropriate things and find clothes that were more “me” for day to day, work, etc…

I shop waaaay too much. Both my partner and I have the same problem. We both have clothes all over the house. I probably spend on average about $200 a month on new clothes. I’m still getting into that whole grove of the work wardrobe thing too, especially since I decided I’m going to start dressing for the job I want (executive) not the job I have (customer service). I used to wear a lot of khakis/cords with polo shirts. Now it’s more dress pants with nice tops/sweaters or suits. I’m slowly phasing out the old more casual clothing and dressing nicer for work.
I don’t necessarily spend $200 each month on clothes. Some months I don’t spend any money on clothes, othe months I spend way more.
December was an expensive month. We went on vacation to a place that had a lot of stores we don’t have where I’m from, including an AWESOME outlet mall. I got some pretty good deals (Like a $170 cashmere sweater from Barney’s for $30!). I spent about $400 on vacation on clothes and shoes. Then on Boxing day I went and bought more clothes (about $200 worth) but that was all using gift cards.
I didn’t do any clothes shopping in January.
So far this month I’ve only spent about $75 on clothes (also using gift cards) but am in desperate need of a new pair of jeans (my favourite pair got a hole in them). Also, I bought a really nice pair of pants with a gift card. They’re super comfy, but also good for work. I want to get the matching jacket, and probably a couple shirts to wear under it.

Ummm, never?lol I probably buy clothes every 6 months or so,and even then its torture,I hate clothes shopping purely because I become a complete tight arse when it comes to spending money on clothes,I always think of what else I could buy with that money, like bills, food shopping, nights out etc. I have never actually gone on a huge spree where Ive cleared out my wardrobe and replaced the majority of it. I hate throwing clothes away,I feel like Im being wasteful because if I can still fit into it and its not in a bad condition, why throw it…?
All in all,Im terrible. Darling Husband has been known to send me out with money, telling me to treat myself and all I do is come back looking sheepish with nothing new! lol

I love this…me and one PP like to shop, and the other hates it…like two ends of the spectrum! 😀

i pretty much buy something every two weeks or so. mostly new tops and jeans. i have so many pairs of jeans is sick. I dont know how it even happened. I think because for a long time it was so hard for me to find nice jeans that now that i can fit into cute jeans i just went nuts. Im still a chunky monkey but now im the kind that can really rock a pair of cute jeans. before jeans were just too ill fitting on my body for me to wear em regularly. I now live in them. I have a problem though for sure with shopping. I look forward to going every couple weeks. I mean i spend about 25-50 dollars per trip depending. i wont add it up because then ill have to admit how bad it really is lol. My SO on the other hand rarely shops so i guess it evens out. he gets so mad when im like “well i gotta go get something to wear because I have nothing”. he will just look at me like I have three heads then point to my ever expanding closet. he looks at it and sees a million options. I look at it and see nothing. Im rather delusional lol

I don’t buy new clothes too often right now because we don’t really have the extra money for it. If I go on a “spree,” I’m like you, where $200 is a lot for me! The last time I did it was before I started my new job. I need to get a few more clothes for the office now that spring’s around the corner.

I hate clothes shopping. Hate it. I might actually buy a few things 3 times a year? I just spent the last of my Christmas 2010 gift certificates yesterday and I used most of them to buy my FI’s birthday presents…

I shop consignment. I rarely buy new anymore…I always check consignment first. I also sell things back, as well. Every big season change, however, such as summer/winter, I do go to the GAP outlet and stock up on things like plain t shirts and some sweaters…but the bulk of my shopping is consignment. When I go to the Gap, I spend around $100 and then at consignment it is typically under $30. I get my ‘staples’ at Gap and my ‘fun stuff’ at the consignment store…I dont remember the last time I bought clothing at a mall, etc.

I might buy a shirt or two maybe once a month. These are cheaper shirts though…the max I am willing to pay on a top is 20 dollars. Haha I’m cheap.

@soyjoy222: I buy a lot of staples at Gap too! I just had a spree there for my honeymoon haha…. And I also buy consignment for some things. It’s hard for me to justify spending like $80 on a pair of pants when I know I can get them for $10-$20 depending on the place….
@kate169: I have a ton of $20 tops…I think $25 is my max. I feel so guilty though because I bought three tops at Gap, and one was a ruffled cardigan (sort of two tops in one) and was like $40 on sale….and I’m like how on earth did I spend that? But I really like it and so does Fiance and so he said to keep it. Meanwhile for like 3 days now I’m like “Should I?” lol! I think I’m just going to keep it but I do feel like I spent too much, because that night I also bought a new gray jacket for work (I didn’t have one, only had brown).

I love to shop but just don’t have the money right now. I have been buying a lot recently because of different wedding events that are right around the corner. I just bought 2 dresses & 2 tops this past weekend but prior to that I hadn’t shopped for me in ast least 3-4 months.

@kimbo89: I’m with you. Even when I have money to shop, I can never justify buying clothes. I always feel like I could spend it on food or bills (which are already paid). I’m just a saver. I may buy an outfit (skirt and a top) twice a year. And I usually buy a dress once a year.

I buy new clothes whenever I need them. So I buy clothes whenever a special occasion arises which isn’t that often. I know I bought a new shirt this past weekend but that’s because I didn’t have any button up shirts and needed one to wear home from surgery.

I buy about 4 outfits a year. For valentines day Fiance sent me to shop for new jeans and a cute top which was fun and only cost me 30$. We dont have any nice stores in our town so its a small independant shop which offers last years cool stuff or we go to the grocery store (cute stuff at a good price). We also have to buy gear for work I dont consider long underwear and winter pants as clothing budget.

I buy Darling Husband and I clothes when there are big sales online and that is it. I hardly ever go shopping. If you are looking for a monthly budget, ours would probably be $40…because we spend about $500/year on clothes, jackets, shoes etc.
