I was 12. Ironically it was on the day we were having a sex ed class about puberty…

I was 13, with exactly one month before my 14th birthday. We were on a family vacation. Ugh.

I was 13. It seems to be the standard age.

@MissMfutureMrsB:  I was 11 and it was on the first day of a 5 day school trip away from home so I couldn’t even tell my mum. Not a fun time at all.

10 Undecided SUPER heavy periods + giant pads = embarrassing and lots of leaks in 5th/6th grade. I didn’t even start using tampons until I was in my 20s because I couldn’t figure it out.

My Future Sister-In-Law just turned 16 and still hasn’t gotten hers.

I think it was just before my 10th birthday? I put 10/11 because I don’t really remember, I just know it’s been FOREVER!

I was 14. Exactly. Literally, it was on my 14th birthday. I was having a pool party the next weekend, which was an issue with the whole pads vs. tampons thing. I had to learn it all fast!

I have a little sister who’s 12 years younger than me (she’s 12), and she just had her first one, and she called me all excited to tell me. SO cute, but I kind of wanted to tell her that it’s really not that exciting! Haha. Instead I made a big deal about how she’s growing up and becoming a woman.

@MissMfutureMrsB:  I got my first period when I was eleven. I know that getting periods when you’re 8 is probably to do with hormone imbalance or something, but I know that weight is a factor into when your ‘time’ comes.

I was eleven, and I got it before all of the other girls in my class. I grew up in the nineties so periods weren’t something we were really ashamed of or anything. I actually felt kind of special  because I was the first one and it was like ‘now I’m a proper woman and I have all of these cool grown up problems’. Lol.

wow, some of you were so young!

i got mine a month before my 13th birthday.

it was during summer vacation and i woke up in the middle of the night with a weird “stomach ache,” i went to the bathroom, and there it was.

i was so shocked and didn’t know what to do, plus i was half asleep. i wanted to wake up my mom, but i thought she’d be mad at me for waking her up just because i had my period. she had given me a couple of pads to keep in my backpack just in case i started at school, so i just used one of those and tried to go back to sleep, but i couldn’t. i was in such disbelief, i kept getting up to check to see if it was really true, haha.

in the morning i told my mom and i think she was as shocked as i was, haha.

I was 13.  It couldn’t have happened at the worst time.  I was staying with my out-of-state grandparents for the summer.  I was so shocked!  For about 3 days I used toilet paper (and lots of it), when I finally broke down and told my grandma.  She said, “Well, I would have thought your mother would have prepared you for this.”  She found out later that it was my first time.  God, it was soooo embarrassing having my grandpa come home from the store with Stayfree Mini Pads.  I wanted to die!!!

I was 13. I didn’t start using tampons until I was nearly 20 because my mom told me that they were for women who had already had sex. Growing up in a household where anything to do with a vagina was taboo, I was convinced tampons were for unscrupulous dirty women until I went off to college.  I wasn’t allowed to put my used pads in the bathroom trash can because my dad might see them. WTF?

One of my dad’s friends even forbid his wife from buying pads while they did grocery shopping together.

I had mine at 15 or 16. It was so irregular up until about a year ago when I started birth control. I’d have a period for two weeks, then nothing for maybe 5 months, then a period, then nothing for 3 months. They were heavy. My sister who is 3 years younger actually had hers before I had mine. She was 11.
