I thought it was law to report all vehicle accidents. What if you filed it as a hit and run?

@catracha:  Before you call the insurance company you should get an estimate or two. Then you can decide if it is better to make a claim or pay out of pocket. I used to be a claims adjuster at Progressive.

ETA: what did you hit? Was there another vehicle involved? If so, they may have already contacted the insurance companies.

To a PP, you do not have to call and report all accidents. At least not here in NY or NJ (I also worked in SC and NC). You have to report it if you hit a state/county/city owned piece of properyy though (ie fire hydrant, median, telephone pole, etc).

If you can afford to pay for it yourself then definitely do so.  If not, then use your insurance.

I would shop around for quotes first.  Did you purchase your car from a Honda dealership?  You might consider contacting your sales person (if you have a good rapport with them).  I work at a dealership and we have people call in frequently asking about stuff like this.  They might be able to get you dealer pricing to have it fixed. If not see if you have a dent magic or a company similar to them near by.

Someone hit my car in a parking lot not that long ago.  A collision center quoted me $2000 to have it fixed.  I had dent magic do it for $320 (luckily I had the person’s information)
