I would LOVE a big dog too!! Right now (and for the foreseeable future), I won’t have the space or money for one though. They eat so damn much!! I also have a toy poodle (8 lbs, complete opposite end of the spectrum), and he doesn’t like big dogs, so it definitely won’t work out for now. But for my next dog, hopefully I’ll be in a position to get a great dane!

@Gerbera: Ours are brothers from the same litter. We got them from a family who wanted to breed their bitch just once. We are still in touch with them. One of ours thinks he’s toy size, if I sit on the floor he’ll lie on me.
@milesbella: 4 years old – that’s sad.

@abbyful: My Fiance wants an Irish Wolfhound so bad…
I want a Tibetan Mastiff. They usually weigh between 140 and 170 and I thin they’re gorgeous!

I LOVE big dogs too, our first choice was a great dane, just as we were going to buy her the seller wanted breeding rights so we didn’t get her. We opted on rescuing a pit bull puppy from the pound. she isn’t tall but she is 65lbs of lovable muscle.
We wanted a friend for our little pup so I went on the hunt for a Saint Bernard which I have ALWAYS wanted but couldn’t find ANY in our area so one day I came across an ad on craigslist for husky puppies, they were accident puppies and she wanted them gone. I fell in love with one of them in the picture and sent my FH to go get her for me. He did and now I have a lovely Siberian husky.
Somehow we ended up rescuing one more husky and now I have three dogs 1 pit bull and 2 huskys lol.
Good luck with your search for a BIG dog. Mastiffs are FANTASTIC dogs too and have those great faces. 🙂

I love everyone’s giant dogs!
The shorter lifespan is definitely a negative, but I just love them!
@CatyLady: yes I did take the picture, it was in our living room, but it looks like a fancy studio picture. lol

@klosen: Lucy looks so cuddly!! Fi’s dog growing up was 1/2 Noofie, he said you could lay on him like a pillow and he would be totally cool with it.

We are getting a dog after we get married. My fiance wants a pug, and I want a large dog. We might have to just get both. lol

@abbyful: Oh my goodness. There is someone in our subdivision who has two of those dogs, with out even jumping up they can see right over the gate to their fence. They could for sure get out if they wanted to.
my dog isnt a giant breed, but she is a mastiff sheppard cross (luckly she didnt get as big as a mastif, my house is too small). People always comment on how bug she is, but at 76 lb she is very tiny for having mastiff in her.

@abbyful: That’s what my husband wants next! I think he’s nuts. We saw one hanging out in the back of a pickup truck once, and it looked like a freakin’ llama! It was massive. My next pick is a Catahoula.
My family had a Great Dane when I was in middle/high school, and she was awesome! It’s true that they need a lot of exercise and room to roam. We lived on 60 acres, and she often would bring home her “kills”, like possoms and squirrels and once a fawn. Sadly she died when she was 7, but not from age. She got in a fight with a miniature donkey, and just didn’t have that old fire she used to. It was sad, but honestly, who can say their dog got killed during a fight with a donkey?! They were the same size!
They really are sweet dogs though. She just didn’t like any other animals near “her” cows.
