Does anyone here have the global (smaller) Amazon Kindle? I’m highly intrigued by them for myself as well as my mother. I’d love to hear reviews! I travel globally a lot so the more expensive one isn’t any good for my lifestyle. How is reading books on them? Any down sides?

We have one and love it! Sometimes I accidentally flip pages by hitting the wrong button once in a while. Other than that there is a little page lag when you do turn pages… but those are the only minor complaints I can come up with 🙂

My friend has one and loves, love it. She travels way too much and reads it on the plane. I used it whenever I am around her. As far as I’m know, she hasn’t had any problems with it and reading on it is really easy!
Though, my friend would recommend getting the leather pouch with light included because it makes it easier to read, no glare, and protects it. Even though, it’s exterminely expensive for a leather pouch! She was not happy abou the price, but thought it was worth it.
I don’t know anything about getting books on it or prices, though. I’m seeing her this weekend so I can ask and update laters

I thought of getting one, but it completely takes the experience of books away. I love the way they feel and smell!

I think for me the main thing is that the difference in price of books would pay for the kindle in only 15 books (by my fave and most likely authors, etc). I LOOOVE reading but because of cost I never buy books anymore… but it I could by it for $5, $8, $9.99 instead of $24 (avg) then I’d do it a lot more often.
Like iTunes. I don’t often buy whole CD’s but $1 here, another $1 there…. much more likely to get the song.

Fiance loves his! We actually got it for him as a partial school expense. We hear they are going to start carrying textbooks, so we finaly went for it. They are so much cheaper than real books (though I like to turn a real page) and sometimes they do promotions where you get a free book… Fiance has had his a couple months and I haven’t heard him complain about it at all. = )

I’ve had mine since Mothers Day 2009. (my guys are just the sweetest)
I love it. love it. love it.
I love the free books. I love the small portability. I love the skin I bought for it. The snazzy red leather case I bought and the cool little light for low light/night reading.
I love that I can download a book to it in 15 seconds.
But the coolest discovery? Slip that puppy into a ziploc freezer bag (make sure the air is out and it’s sealed) and you can read it anywhere, beach, pool…BATHTUB.
Yes Bees you heard me correctly. Slip it into a ziploc freezer bag and you can soak in a warm tub until pruny..without a single wet page.
It fits in my purse (as well as the diaper bag) with ease.
No need to be bored whilst waiting for anything or anyone.
I love my Kindle. Does it have a few quirks..yep. Amazon is propriatry much like apple.
And I am not fond that they got rid of Sprint Whispernet in favor of ATT. I CAN tell a difference in connectivity occassionally when I purchase a book.
(as my co-workers who have seen me wandering the halls waving my Kindle, looking for “the sweet spot” can atest)

I love, love, LOVE mine! I tend to read giant, historical biographies that hurt to hold, so the kindle is a life saver!

Oh I want one. My mom has the Sony Reader (like Kindle) and loves it. However I do really like the way books feel/smell. But it would be so easy to carry them all in the reader!

I LOVE my kindle. I’m on the train most of the day for my job, so it’s great–prevents me from having to carry around a bunch of books.
@penny: that is such a good idea to put it in a plastic bag to bring it in the bath! Genius! i’ll have to try it 🙂

I love mine – it’s ideal for travelling. No more heavy suitcases full of big books!
