Hello lovely Bees,
Just wondering if anyone has experience/knowledge related to a living liver transplant (where a portion of a healthy, living donor’s liver is transplanted into a recipient in need). I have a relative who is very sick and is a candidate for live transplant. I’m considering going through the donor evaluation process, and will obviously talk with the doctors/specialists, but I’m wondering if any of you have personal experiences to share. I’ve read tons of info online, and generally know how the procedure works, but it’s always nice to hear from someone who’s gone though it, or knows someone who has.
Thanks bees! I truly appreciate it! 🙂

Maybe one of the involved doctor’s or some group can put you in contact with someone?
What an amazing gift you’re considering giving!

I don’t know a lot of details, but a very amazing woman in my parents’ church got a new lease on life from a live liver transplant. This lady along with her husband adopted and raised 3 kids, including one that was born with fetal alcohol syndrome. They looked for a suitable donor for months on end, and had basically given up and were essentially planning the funeral when they found one. Now she’s in good health, and they adopted two more teenage girls. I don’t know anything from the donor’s standpoint, but I am so grateful to whoever that person was.
So, this is hardly a representative study, but her quality of life has been great since the operation. This is a huge decision for you, good luck with processing through it.

Thanks so much for your replies! I appreciate it. I was able to get in touch with one of the coordinators for the program and she sent me a bunch of info. There’s an option to talk to someone who has previously donated, so I might consider that if I decide to go through with the assessment. 🙂
