DH and I are brainstorming ideas for a long weekend (Friday – Sunday) getaway this fall. We’re open to driving or flying, and are leaving from the DC area. Cost isn’t much of a factor – but I’m at a loss for ideas. Any ideas would be great!

Cape May, NJ. or St. Michael’s, MD.

St Michael’s MD, or if you’re the outdoorsy type Deep Creek Lake (Oakland, MD)

Portland, Maine is a great little town perfect for a long weekend and has some quite scenic little spots (cape Elizabeth for example) just a few minutes out of the city center. DH and I took a late September trip there once and it was beautiful at that time of year. It’s a bit of a foodie town, we ate like kings, and very inexpensively.

we like to hit up state park facilities. many places have cabins that are actually really nice. We try and go in the fall also, it’s fun to get a fire going and snuggle up in seclusion 🙂 we are trying out one this November that has a “honeymoon suite.” If you like outdoorsy/naturey stuff it makes for a fun weekend.

Bermuda would be a good long weekend from DC, it’s about a 2.5 hour non-stop flight. Depending on when in fall you’re planning it could be rainy though.

When I lived in DC, Ocean City was fun to visit to get away. I also really loved Hershey, PA with all the chocolate-y fun, theme park, less populous area. I’ve heard lots of good things about the Outer Banks although I’ve never been there.
Vermont would also be awesome in the fall.
