I was mentioning the other day how the little freezer over our fridge is not big enough, and as most of our family gives money for Christmas, maybe we would take it and buy a deep freezer with it.
My mother in law called me the other day and said that she and her husband would like to buy us an early Christmas/Birthday gift and buy us a deep freezer, and what kind did we want?
There are just two of us and we live in an apartment, so I don’t need an enormous freezer. Just something big enough that I can buy more than two dinners at a time.
Any suggestions on kind (chest or upright), size, brand? I know nothing about appliance buying!

Personally, I prefer chest freezers. I think any decent brand would be fine. Measure the area you have to store it (upright might be better for you). Costco sometimes has good prices on them.

@AB Bride: I agree chest freezer all the way I also agree any good brand will be fine such as fridgeadaire also measure where it will go so you know how big to get.

I’ll give the opposite opinion – I prefer upright. I think things are more likely down in difficult to reach corner of chest freezer than upright.
But, I suppose that you do have more flexability to put odd and unique or larger size packages in a chest freezer.
Whichever you decide I’m sure you’ll love having the extra freezer space.

yeah chest freezers!
My family (4 of us) had 2 huge chest freezers in the basement while I was growing up. My mom would go to the store and buy food in bulk and freeze it, so we always had supplies for anything we possibly wanted to make (blueberries, peppers, meat, flour, pizza, etc).
I’m planning on getting one really large chest freezer just because this method saves so much money in the long run and i HATE trying to make room in our tiny little fridge freezer for everything I want to store. Its worth it to me to have a huge freezer in a tiny apartment lol
So even though its just two of you, I recommend getting a larger freezer than you think you want. Its only a couple hundred dollars more. They come in a lot of different sizes. Just measure where you’re planning on putting it to make sure youre getting a size that fits. Any brand works well, as long as it keeps stuff cold. check out amazon.com for reviews if you’re curious, those are really helpful.
also a tip: label everything and even put a”map” of where things go on the freezer lid so its easy to find things.
