Katie-Didnt :  A correction to your assumptions about me.  I am a Christian.  I am far from a conservative.  I am an independent moderate.

I’ll take this in a different direction, which is something I have tried to do in order to get people to understand how INSANE the fact that this person will be the next POTUS.

Forget the bigoted, sexist, etc comments he has made. Put it out of your mind. This person has absolutely NO experience in politics. He has never held a political office, never dealt with world issues/relations, has no military experience, and the list of no’s goes on and on. The fact that people do not find it a bit scary that he is going to be the next leader free world is scary in itself. With that, the next time you get sick, need surgery, etc…I want you to go to the nearest McDonald’s and ask the fry guy to examine you or perform your surgery. Why? Because that is exactly what we’re getting in the White House come January. Someone with the experience of the fry guy at McDonald’s when it comes to politics.

Disclaimer>>This is nothing against the fry guy at McDonalds.

sunshinelove007 :  Um, you do realize he won’t be doing anything alone, right?  He will have thousands of qualified people with plenty of government experience helping him.  And people can learn and he will learn, too.  We voted for him because we are GLAD he is not your typical, lifelong career politician.  Do you know the premise for how our government was set up in the beginning?  For it to be run by the people, for the people.  Not by the politicians for the politicians.

Sunfire :  The one thing you have convincingly demonstrated throughout this thread is that your grasp of logic is frail. Yes I’m sure Trump cares sooo much about the people. The people are definitely foremost in his mind while he rides up and down in his gold-plated elevator. I’m sure the people were his top concern when he launched the fraudulent Trump University. Definitely, the people and their wishes were his number one priority when he refused to release his tax returns. I am sure the PEOPLE, not his own narcissistic obsession with being admired and liked–is what motivates him to act like a pathetic sycophant toward Putin, a leader who has his political opponents murdered, has invaded sovereign territories, and represses free speech in his country.

Such a public servant! So above it all! So much better than a politician!

sunshinelove007 :   to add on…..

he doesn’t have political experience (whatever that really means) but he has years of experience as a successful business owner, entreprenuer, etc. We need someone who can balance budgets, project manage, push teams to deliver results— all business attributes.

Just like the CEO of a business doesn’t personally develop the marketing agenda, write up the tax reports or mop the floors, neither does the president. No one ever has ‘presidential’ experience, unless they’re running for a second term.

I don’t even think citing ‘politicial experience’ means anything. Why? Politicians aren’t held to deliver results. Dont show up as a senator- you still get your paycheck. Nothing changes in your state while you’re governor- still get your paycheck. That’s not the way it SHOULD work, and its not the way it works in business.

tiffanybruiser :  I’m not even going to answer your bitchy remark.  Opinion is opinion is opinion.  All you’ve spouted is your personal opinion, which, from what I’ve observed, has zero to do with logic.

italianbride0508 :  Exactly.  He has decades of business experience along with a qualified staff.  I’m sure he’ll do fine, if not, people will vote him out.  If so, everyone in the U.S. will benefit from a thriving economy.

Canadian Bee here! I must say, from my perspective this was/is a VERY hot and passionate election that has divided a nation! THAT is not something to be taken lightly, regardless of which candidate you were backing. I don’t have many American friends to speak with on a personal level about it, but what I have seen and heard on both the news and social media has been heartbreakingly bitter. OP’s situation is just one example.

I’m estranged from my family, so the best I can relate is with my inlaws. Father-In-Law is VERY political and opinionated. I am informed on politics, but by no means a political person. It is safe to say though, that him and I don’t agree….and he is the kind of guy who will go on passionate rants about his beliefs, ESPECIALLY if yours don’t match his. We have gotten into some pretty passionate debates over the years…but even at the worst of it the MOST we’ve gone without talking is for a few hours while we (mostly him) cooled off…this could also be in part because he lives with us, so it’s not like we can really retreat too far if we do fight….but that isn’t my point….

I completely agree that your Mom has gone WAY overboard! I also agree that you shouldn’t be the one to smooth this over. Regardless of who supported who, this is nolonger about politics. She has been quite rude to you! No Mother should speak to her child in that way (even an adult child) over something like politics. She needs to get a grip! For now, I’d let her cool off in her corner. You may never hear the apology you want, but she has to come around sometime!

If he does well, which I hope he does (for the benefit of our children), kudos to him. Yes, he won’t do it alone, but making him the POTUS sure does give him the ability to eff up the last 8 years of progress. I’m sorry, I am a bit apprehensive about putting the future in the hands of the ‘fry guy’ as I call him.

If you voted for him and are loving on him, God bless you. I hope you’ve made a wise choice for everyone’s sake.

Firstly I have a strong opinion because of the importance of American politics internationally, secondly I have a string opinion for humanitarian reasons and thirdly I have a strong opinion because j have a basic working knowledge of history and what follows when narcissistic right wing leaders are given power.

You say trump is not sexist, he inherently is sexist, he views women as sexual beings first and foremost.

He is racist, he accused Obama of being Kenyan for a start and uses inherently racist terms to describe Mexican people.

Racism, sexism and all bigotry are not only dangerous in their extremes, yes it is a danger to minorities if someone wants to kill or not hire them for being gay/black/a woman/trans or whatever, the smaller more insidious threats and dehumanising are what lead to the bigger threats. bigotry comes in many forms. Trump as a person shows horrendous lack of respect for all minorities in his words and actions.

The rise of the extreme right to power has never lead to anything good.

It’s is a sad day for humanity that trump and his lile have been given power.

Future history books will bear this out!

I’m sure plenty of people asked ‘why do you care what’s happening in Germany’ in 1944. ‘why do we care what the American military are doing in vietnam or Korea?’ ‘why should we be bothered by kin Jong il’ ‘why should what happens in Afghanistan concern us’ ‘why would I worry about politics in Syria, I’m not syrian’

Your small world view of the election of the horror that is Trump just shows your naivety of international politics. It pretty much exemplifies what I suspected of his supporters. They don’t know enough to even realise what they’ve done!

I can’t take anyone seriously when they talk about how great a business man is. He went bankrupt 4 times! How is that GOOD. You can’t really do that with a country LOL.

sunshinelove007 :  I love your attitude and feel the same way.  I hope Trumps keeps all of the good things that happened over the past 8 years, and improves on the things that went wrong.  For everyone’s sake.  God bless you, too, my friend.

Sunfire :  how can you claim to disagree with racist social views yet think someone who spouts these views will be a strong leader. He’ll strongly lead you to new lows of extreme right wing bigotry. A strong leader is only an advantage if theyre leading somewhere good.

malgor :  actually, I worked at the UN for two years (for ECOSOC) after graduating from Penn with a BA magna cum laude in International Relations.  I can GUARENTEE that I know a hell of a lot more about the history of American foreign policy than you do.

I have tried to leave my credentials out of the argument because I hate an appeal to authority, but I have had enough insults.  Sometimes an opinion is just an opinion, not knowledge.  You have an opinion that differs from mine, not a superior knowledge.

On a more personal note, which I have also tried to leave out because I tried to reason with people in a less passionate way, my Mother-In-Law is a female Muslim immigrant (from Iran) and she voted for Trump.  I guess she must HATE herself, right?  Or maybe she was sick of seeing her adopted country destroyed with ridiculous economic policies???

I had very similar problems with my mom being offended by things on my FB to the point that I can no longer be friends with her on Facebook. I hope things work out with your mother!

italianbride0508 :

Political experience means working your way up, watching and learning and maybe doing a qualification to learn about the field you work in.

Would you say someone about to operate on you had ‘no medical experience, whatever that means, he’ll learn’ because actually his lack of experience will cost a lot more lives than the odd unqualified doctor. Political incompetence may not kill you, it will kill others.

Again. How naive.
