raindrop101 : Regardless of the choice of presidents, I feel as if these things will still occur. I was picked on and made fun of as a kid. I smelled weird, I had a bowl cut, my parents dressed me in odd outfits they had inherited from other family members because they had fled communistic China with nothing… but the greatness of America is people can speak for or against issues without being hunted down.
Christians are still being hunted down in China, today. They are having their organs harvested while being jailed, today. People who practice Falun Gong, a simple spiritual practice that involves mediatation, are being dragged off to jails and being surgerically opened so their organs can be hauled into the black market, today. By the government. But these people are criminals…it doesn’t matter if they are good people- they are criminals because of what they believe!”
If that is as terrible to you as that is to me, I hope you can see that people have nothing to gain from tearing each other down in a country where you can 1)impeach people 2)vote people into office 3)hold protests.
So I will hope America doesn’t fail and hope that we can all come together to work on what we DO have as Americans instead of nitpicking at what we got because we can’t for one second appreciate we have a place to say what we want. You do not have to support him but you should support each other, regardless of the VP.
bunnybadger : I met a wonderful woman who flew from China to DC to lobby against the atrocities in being commited by the Chinese government on those that practice Falun Gong!! I urge everyone to read up on it and learn about what is happening in our world. Thank you for bringing it up and reminding us that 1) it could be so much worse and 2) we have the power to prevent it.
I just have to say this:
To all those who voted for Trump who say that they are not racist or bigots or misogynists or xenophobic, etc.–I will believe you. However, you voted for someone who *is* all of these things. So, either you really do identify with the hateful rhetoric he spewed for over a year or you are just saying that all of those problems now facing a massive portion of the American population do not matter to you. To me, it’s kind of cut and dry. You can say you aren’t racist, but you voted for one. You can say you aren’t homophobic, but you voted for the candidate who chose one of the most anti-gay politicians in the country as his running mate, who is now overseeing his transition into the White House. You can claim you aren’t racist, but you voted for the guy who is vetting Steve Bannon to assume a high position in the White House. To a large majority of the country, these issues are not something to just “chill out and get over.” I will never stop being a big ole sanctimonious bitch when it comes to fighting against racisim and bigotry. I do understand that many people chose Trump as a lesser of two evils for whatever reasons, but I don’t really think everyone fully understands what comes with Trump. Steve Bannon comes with Trump. Newt Gingritch comes with Trump. Anti-choice Supreme Court Justices comes with Trump. If this doesn’t worry you or give you pause, then yes, you need to check yourself.
OP, I’m sorry your mom is voicing her frustrations in such an unkind way. She seems to be taking her frustration in general out on you. However, I will say that I get where she is coming from. Like I highlighted above, for many people, this is not just sour grapes–this is an affront to everything that they hold near and dear, to the morals and values they thought this country held near and dear. She can probably sense your indifference and it probably frustrates her and instead of voicing her concerns in a mature manner, she is lashing out in a hurtful way. I think you both need to take time to breathe.
Also, edited to add, if one more Trump supporter tries to kumbay–fucking–ya me and tells me to “unite together” one more time, I just may scream. Our own President-elect refused to acknowledge that he would support the decision of the election unless he won, so you know what, imma need a minute to wrap my head around this.
becky3212 : . I’d like to think all of this hate will die down once things settle and they realize it won’t be tolerated and the fact that Trump is president doesn’t mean it’s a free pass to be hateful.
But don’t you see, that is exactly what it means! If it’s ok for the president why wouldn’t it be ok for the rest of the country? And by voting for him that is the message that was sent and you see that in all the horrible things that had happened since. And I think that part of the problem is that Trump supporters don’t want to take responsability for this. By voting for him you stood by him and told the word that this is acceptable behaviour.

fromatoz : Ultra progressive liberal American women are literally the most intolerant and sanctimonious subset of the human population.
Exactly! I completely agree. The hypocrisy of hating on certain religious and racial groups is staggering. Also, the reverse sexism. It’s ok in their world to completely hate on whites, Christians, and men, and throw out any number of disgusting, hurtful, untrue labels but still DEMAND that other people respect “human rights.” They are hurting their own cause and it will go nowhere fast.
In fact, the more university classroom walkouts that occur, the more sanctuary cities and criminal mayors make stupid announcements they can’t back up (see how long that lasts once their federal funds are dried up) and the more paid protestors block city traffic, the more the face of the Democratic party is being ruined forever for your average, normal American citizen.
The draining of the swamp * might * also include the draining of the Democratic party of any reasonable, sane people if this shit keeps up.
Go ahead and put Keith Ellison in charge of the DNC, y’all. Love to see it. The Dems won’t be back in power for another 40 years if that happens. Go for it.
Or learn something from all of this. EVERYONE matters, including white people, including Christians, including all income levels, and including men. Note I am saying including. Nobody who is an American citizen should be excluded from having the same rights.
If opposing rhetoric or even the theoretical possibility of registering American citizens based on their religion or internment camps coming back to this country is me being and intolerant sanctimonious progressive, I wear that label proudly.
This kind of rheotoric is not acceptable.
Katie-Didnt : It is not going to happen.
The only people who will be “registered” will be people who are not currently American citizens, who want to come to the United States and are coming from countries known to sponsor terrorism and have a deep hatred for the American way of life.
The terrorists themselves have told us time and time again that they WILL come with the flood of people wanting to emigrate. We really need to believe them.
I have a bad feeling the next terrorist attack will be in a so-called sanctuary city. The people who really hate us are loving being coddled and protected by those they consider their future victims.
