@DaneLady:  ugh I’m sorry, hun!  Sounds like something that would totally happen in my family!  Don’t feel bad about your choices, though – and I’m glad your mom is respecting that.  In fact, my grandmother was a smoker and when my mom was pregnant with my sister (1st born grandchild), When my mom got pregnant, she told her she would never see her granddaughter as long as she was smoking – my grandmother quit cold turkey right then and there, and hasn’t smoked since – 31 years later!

@DaneLady:  I’m sorry…my Grandma is equally foul and unpleasant…which is why I avoid her at all costs….even when she calls me at work to chew my ass off about never visiting her and threatening to take me out of her will….to which I reply, “Since you can’t pay me enough to spend time with you, I feel comfortable that whatever sum you planned to give me would be better spent on people who are easily bought.”

I’m sorry she got to you though…it’s like then can smell it when you’re having a bad day and then the go in for the kill…go on Amazon, buy a case of adult diapers and have them shipped to her house with a note that read, “Next time use these for your shit instead of my ears.”  Love N Kisses – DaneLady

i used to live with an elderly woman, and she was the same way. my actual grandmothers never were, they were sweet, kind, funny old ladies their whole lives. but, the elderly lady i lived with sometimes, i would be like, WHAT? like one day, i came downstairs in jeans and a t shirt (nice jeans, nice t shirt), to go and meet my Fiance for lunch, and she was like “you don’t want him to see you like THAT, do you??” and i laughed so hard she started laughing. another time, she was like, “you aren’t going out in those shorts are you?? they are WAY too short!” and i did the same thing. i just laughed my ass off at her and then she would start giggling realizing what a dork she was being.

i mean, they’re old, that’s their prerogative…when i’m old i’ll be mean as shit too! lol

Are you sure Adam Sandler isn’t impersonating your grandma?

@DaneLady:  Ha, I love this and can totally relate. Are we secret cousins, do we share a cray cray grandma?! Also, my mom smokes in her house too…wtf?! Go outside!

@DaneLady:  Well…I get that they’re wrinkled pain in asses…but try not to dump on her parenting…after all, she did alright with your Mom, right?  So while some of it is outdated and hysterically misguided…it all worked out in the end, so just listen to whatever she says and politely ignore it.

@DaneLady:  I think people get bitchier in their old age. My dad used to say you don’t change as you get older, you just get more like you are. I think that’s true. Anyway… she’s being a bitch lol. I think it’s totally reasonable to ask your mom to wash her hands/clothes so that baby isn’t exposed to smoke, and that you don’t want your kid in her smokey house. TOTALLY NORMAL.

The older generation sometimes has this “we smoked while pregnant/drank while babysitting/let our kids play in piles of broken glass AND THEY TURNED OUT JUST FINE” mentality. :oP

@DaneLady:  Grandparents can be so ridiculous. My Gpa hassled me for 3 solid hours on my wedding day about the fact that I wasn’t wearing a flower in my hair. NO IDEA why he was so bent out of shape over that but I thought I was going to strangle him.

I know it’s hard because you’re super pregnant and uncomfortable and tired and sore and everything is all wonky so it affects you even more, but try and stand your ground. Old grannies can be both nosy and sly, so make sure she doesn’t pull a fast one on you. I know you have the cajones to tell her to stuff it if she gets allupinyourbizz, so bust ’em out when it comes time πŸ™‚ MWAH!

@DaneLady:

my grandma was like that to in ways,it is best to let it roll off your back,even when it hurts.i dont think they really relize how mean they may sound.

when my grandma got house bound,then wheelchair to chair bound she got a little worse,but i knew it was because she was frustrated being stuck having others having to do for her,something she was not use to.

she died 2 years ago,4 months after my mom,i miss that old lady and some of the things that would come out of her mouth
