Can you get the same bed in the bigger size?  That way it still matches everything else.

We did that with a dresser.  We didn’t have space for it in our apartment but when we moved to a house with a bigger master bedroom, we went out and bought the dresser that matched the rest of our set (it was still available over 2 years later).

You can make a tufted headboard pretty easily, but I believe Overstock.com sells them.

Does all your current furniture match your bed now? If so then I would just do a frame until I could afford to add a nice fabric headboard.

I’ve been talking to my husband about this same issue lately. We really want to get a kind with a baby coming but i don’t see the point in buying all new bedroom furniture when we have 2 really nice sets.

are you against building your own headboard? it could be something totally fun for you and your husband to do together!

or you could always look on craiglist for a king size bed or headboard and just repurposes it by staining or covering the headboard in fabric.

Walmart’s webiste has some tufted headboards that aren’t too shabby for $200 (and made in the USA). I say do that and just a bed frame from wherever you’re  getting your mattress from. I bought a black one from them and am quite happy, it looks comparable to the Pottery Barn I had been eyeballing and cost 75% less. Plus walmart will ship for dirt cheap too!
