Unless I home make them, then yes I consider them fried.  I bake mine.

Yup. Same as potato chips. Unless they are “baked chips” they are fried.

Unless they say baked, but they aren’t the same then.

Funny story, in hs, I worked in a Mexican restaurant that always brought out warm baskets of chips. Everyone thought they were fresh off the frier. Actually, we had a big vat of chips in the back with a rather ingenious contraption rigged so a hair dryer blew on the chips next to be served.

I know that they ARE, but I don’t really categorize them as “fried food” in my head. I think of “fried food” more as breaded things.

I don’t…but mostly because I don’t want to think about it hehe 🙂

    No, I don’t.

I know they are, but in my head, fried food is battered and fried – like: onion rings, fried chicken, cheese sticks, etc.

Um- if I was at a restaurant where they made them then I guess so- but I don’t really think of them like that.

@oracle: Same. Fried foods to me are potato wedges, fried chicken, onion rings, etc. I wouldn’t even think of tortilla chips as such (even though they are)…I even think of them as ‘healthy’ because I’ll eat them with salsa. I’m stretching, I know, but I need to validate my love for them 🙂

I do think of them as fried food because they’re usually fried and they give my stomach the gross-fried-greasy feeling if I eat them on an empty stomach or only with other fried food.

But they are in the very small, very special subset of fried foods I actually like and will put up with an unhappy stomach for.

@oracle: But don’t you think of french fries as a fried food?

I condsider them fried I suppose… but not nearly as “fried” as chicken or whatever. 🙂
