So there’s a new deodorant out, just in time for summer (well at least in the Northern Hemisphere), called Dove Ultimate Go Sleeveless.
It seems according to research funded by Unilever PLC (Dove’s parent company — it also owns Degree and Axe), I am among the 7% of women who don’t find their underarms unattractive. For the record, since I shave them every day, all I worry about is sweat/smell…who knew they were supposed to be attractive? And what, exactly, is attractive in an underarm? I thought hairless, dry, and smelling nice was enough?
Has anyone else heard about this?

this kind of stuff targeting appearance really pisses me off. Its unreal. If it was up to coporations we would not be happy with one inch of our natural body. We would think everything is horrible and ugly unless we buy something to change it in some way.

Holy cow, that’s annoying. I’m with you, as long as I’m not sporting a ton of hair and I wear deoderant regularly…that’s as good as it gets.

Not once in my life have I ever stopped to wonder whether my underarms are attractive or not.
ETA: Just to clarify, I mean stopped whatever I was doing, not stopped the actual wondering. In other words, I couldn’t care less about my underarms. 🙂

I don’t understand how it’s going to make them look “prettier”… is it like cover up for pitts? I think the reason 93% of women say their armpits are ugly is because ARMPITS ARE NOT ATTRACTIVE!? Oye.

The only time I think someone has unattractive armpits is when they have the ‘shadow’ going on. You know what I mean – a darkened patch in their underarm created by hair follicles that still exist in the pore. This is usually the case with dark haired women, not blondes. In that situation I definitely think waxing/tweezing is in order over shaving!

@Ahone: Wow, that’s one I’d not heard of. I’m not blond, but my body hair (sorry if TMI) is, so I’ve never had an issue with that.
I can see where one might find a dark patch less than attractive, especially if it causes you to look dirty or unshaven…but I don’t know what deordorant can do for that. Tweezing or waxing there? Yikes, sounds terribly painful!

Ok I am on the other side of this. I am in the %7 and its actually something i am self conscience about my underarms… they are discolored and i rarely wear tank tops and if i do, i do not lift my arms, even in fron of my SO. So maybe it is amarketing ploy to get women to feel bad about themselves and spend more money but I will be trying it because maybe it will help and I won’t feel so self conscience when I do the YMCA, hahaha just kidding…. Have a nice day ladies!

I am wondering if the models for fashion week now will be walking the runway with their arms up. I also think that if they are shaved, dry, and not stinky then that is all I am going to worry about.

I live for the day I can lift my arms in public to fix my ponytail with a tanktop on. My biggest self-conscious issue in a wedding dress will be my underarms and being to move my arms freely so no one sees “under there”.

Is this deodorant going to make my triceps more muscular and less jiggly? That’s pretty much my least favorite thing about my underarms.

I have a couple friends that have this problem. They can’t shave everyday because they get serious irritation from the shaving and if they don’t shave everyday they have an underarm “shadow” from their dark hair.
I think the deodorant is supposed to deal with that irritation. If you don’t have the problem that’s great but for my friends that do I know that a product that actually works would be very welcomed.

Thats why I got laser hair removal. Im have medium fair complexion and very dark brown hair. Shavingy legs and underarms left them both looking unattractive, as you can still see the “black dots” where the hair follicle is. and waxing was way too painful.
