I lovingly refer to myself as an “indoor dog” meaning I’m not a huge fan of outdoor activities. Friday night we went camping with some friends and I woke up with a red dot above my ankle, assumingly a mosquito bite. I’ve had a million mosquito bites but this bite looks…different.
Its now about the size of a quarter, raised, and very firm. It doesn’t really itch much, but now I’d kind of surrounded by a red rash.
I’m not worried, just keeping an eye on it. I googled and it doesn’t really look like a spider bite and there was no tick. Any guesses? Is there a certain point that I should contact my doctor?

It’s not getting a bullseye-type look to it, is it?
I’d have guessed a spider bite, or maybe a mosquito bite that you’ve had more of a severe reaction to – that’s happened to me as I’ve gotten older.

I’m guessing a mosquito bite. I end up getting huge red marks around them now. Gross mosquitos.

@MrsTahoe: Thanks! No, no real bullseye look, at least not yet. :-/

Check out horsefly bite pics. I get them all the time in the woods where my inlaws live and they sound very similar!

As someone who loves the outdoors but pretty sure it hates me back, it may just be a mosquito bite you had more of a reaction to. I’ve started reacting more to mosquitos recently, not sure why but I got some a few weeks ago that got HUGE and awful. But unless it gets a lot bigger, or starts to really hurt I wouldn’t worry too much.

I would recommend going to a doctor and asking for a course of antibiotics for Lyme disease if it looks anything like a typical Lyme rash.

@chasesgirl: Good to know! I’ve had hundreds of mosquito bites but none quite like this. You’re probably right though!
