I am still a dependent of my mother when it comes to taxes. Heres the problem, for the first time I went to the emergency room and dentist this time alone. She always goes with me except for these times. She’s the one tha usually pays the bills therefore they give her the receipt. I didn’t know at the time I got the receipts that these are used for filing taxes. I never keep receipts I just figured they were useless. Today she asked me for them and there is no way I can because they are long gone. She is going to H & R block today (Sunday) so there is no way I can get a hold of the billing depertment at the hospital and dentist (already tried that). Now she is yelling at me for something I was not aware of.
Heres the vent part. I left a medical bill that I had to pay still on my fiances desk. Apparently he wasnt looking through stuff when he threw the trash out that was on his desk but now its not there and its not in the trash can. However I did find the florist contract that he apparently threw in there.
Question: How the heck do I fix this problem about not having the receipts.

Did you pay by cash or check? If a check, look at the register or call the bank to get the amounts on the checks. Easy to track down if you used a credit card~look at your statement or call the company.
BTW~unless she’s had a considerable amount in medical/dental expenses last year she can’t even claim them so the amounts won’t make much difference. The only time we were able to was when they totalled over $8000.

Your mom has until Friday to finish filing her taxes, so can she just wait until you can get in touch with billing this week to get any receipts? If not, and she’s dead set on filing today, I agree with smyley- the difference in the amount of her return will probably be negligible even if she does claim those expenses. Maybe she can just let them go this year.

Alright I am calling AMEX right now to see if they can pull up the info on the dentist and I think she is dead set on filing today.

Yay for AMEX I got the dates and amounts of the transactions. Thank you guys for helping. I guess she can forget that medical bill for now.
