I made an appointment with my makeup artist for a private makeup lesson this month, but I have no idea whether/what I’m supposed to tip her since it’s a lesson that I’m paying for, and she doesn’t work at a makeup counter (she’s freelance), so she doesn’t sell products. Advice?

You don’t have to tip people who work for themselves-they get to set their own prices.

I’m a professional makeup artist, and I don’t get tipped for lessons. But 99% of the time I get tipped for the actual application.

Good question! I was wondering the samething. I’ve booked my makeup trial session for May 19. I might also book for lessons if I like the trial.

I would tip if she’s good. I’m sure she’ll appreciate it.

@the_future_mrs: Thanks, I figured that was the case. I tipped her when she did my makeup for our e-pics, and liked her so much I booked a lesson. I just wondered if it was expected since it’s her teaching me, not actually applying a full face. But you answered my question!
