I was recently reminded of the horrors of Google Translate and Babelfish, but then I remembered how amusing it can be! I taught English in Japan for two years, and once a few of my high school boys tried to turn in a paper they had obviously written in Japanese and then just run through an online translator. It took me a while to explain to them why online translators don’t work, but this website does a great job to help!
You enter in a sentence in English, then it translates it to Japanese, then back to English, and back and forth until it reaches equilibrium! Hours of entertainment! For example, if you start with the phrase “Why Grandma, what big teeth you have!”, you end up reaching equilibrium with the phrase “Osamu Hiroshi Grandma, if you use your teeth, you can”. It’s BRILLIANT!
