I made an impulse buy this weekend – it’s this cute sweater dress that was on sale 🙂 but the problem is it’s kind of sheer. It’s a dark cobalt blue color and I was wearing a brown bra at the time and you could totally see the outline of my bra. if you hold the dress up to the light, you can see that it’s kind of sheer/light-weight. I’m thinking a camisole or something like that is the answer – but it seems like it will be too bulky (camisole under the dress). Is the solution to find a blue bra that matches the dress? Or maybe I should just return it?!

@oracle: Not sure if you wanted to make another purchase, but for this problem, I have a Spanx dress/slip thingy (http://www.spanx.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12911053&cp=2992553.3010025&parentPage=family’ defer=’defer). I got it a size up so it’s not SUPER constricting, but it’s perfect to wear under dresses that are either more sheer or show underwear lines easily. Kinda expensive but I’m sure there are cheaper off-brand options. If it helps, I’ve found it a worthwhile purchase as I’ve worn it TONS of times.

Depends on where you’re planning on wearing it to- out dancing, bra showing fine IMO. I’m okay showing a little bra, but wouldn’t show my undies!
I have a holy sweater dress and I wear a long cami under it. I got the cami for $5 at Old Navy, it’s long enough that it looks like a tank dress and snug enough that it doesn’t ride up or look bulky.

I agree – a nude shaper slip is just the thing. The benefit of shapewear is that it is usually seamless and adds no bulk at all. You can get “light control,” or something along those lines, which should not constrict at all.

Whatever you do it should be as close to your skintone as possible, some kind of shapewear is prob your best bet.

For a sheer sweater dress, a skin-colored cami slip’s a good way to go.

I would say a nude or black slip. The problem with shapewear is that since it isn’t silky, the sweater dress may cling in unflattering places. A slip will let the dress skim over you like it would over your skin.

I depending on the color of the sweater dress (most of mine are dark) I wear black leggings and a black cami underneath.

Depends on the dress. Do you have a picture?
