I second the layers.  I had long hair and cut my hair right before the honeymoon, too.  I had major hair regret!  Anywho, my hair is finally your length and it was the same thing…I look like my mom.  Except I have the side swept bangs and my mom doesn’t.  lol  I’m going to get some peekaboo highlights to break up my black hair so we can see the layers.

Personally, I think you and your mom have totally different haircuts and I really like the 2nd picture you posted.  Looks cute and low maintenance!

I would do the sideswept bangs and go back to the dark brown color.  I think a lot of the similarity is the kind of “generic middle-aged mom sort-of blondish but not in a stylish way” hair color.

I totally understand! My mom and I live 1200 miles apart and we STILL end up with the same haircuts unintentionally from time to time. Last time, she brought in a photo of Kris Jenner’s short cut and I used Ginnifer Goodwin’s pixie…which resulted in SAME HAIRCUT. Ugh! Fortunately, most people don’t notice or at least don’t mention it on the rare occasion that we’re in the same place!

I think maybe your new color is similar to your mom’s. You both have the same beautiful smile but that’s obviously not going to change, just enjoy it! So maybe it’s the hair length + hair color + great smile that lead people to say you look alike?

Maybe a little layering and some light side swept bangs?

I love the new color! It works beautifully with your complexion. I think if you grow it out another ~2 inches and have a stylist put in some long layers, it will frame your face beautifully and look younger and less “mom-like.”

i like the darker colour on you – add some layers so it’s a bit softer and maybe grow it to your shoulders?

Change the color and let it grow out.  I look so much like my mom that I get it all the time regardless of how long my hair is.  So I started dying my hair a few shades darker and voila the comments cut down significantly.

I vote to get rid of the middle part. If you’re afraid of bangs I think you should put layers in, go a little darker, move the part to the side more.

Yep, long layers and longer, side-swept bangs. Get rid of the middle part.

Also, I totally have the caridgan that your mom is wearing.

@mchitt329:  I say go to a dark warm brown. Nothing close to black. Just a nice rich darker brown. Your skin town would look wonderful with a warmer brown color. and it would make your eyes pop. I think keeping it nice and short with some cute layers in it and a side swept bang would be adorable. NO BLUNT BANGS. Just a longer more casual and loose side swept bang that can easily blend into the layers as it grows out if need be.
