What about guitar lessons, if you think he’d enjoy getting into playing more?  Or, instead of just a gift cert for ski boots, can you arrange a trip the weekend before (or after) to go buy the boots?  It could be a “fake” gift cert that you make yourself saying, “A gift certificate for ski boots of your own, and a trip to XXX next Saturday to pick them out!”

FI’s bday is this Friday.  I am seriously sick of getting him stuff that he really wants but does not use.  So this year we are going on a mini dive trip to Catalina Island.

I really like the restaurant.  We always try to go to a nice place on our birthdays.

Uggh, I am in the same boat my boyfriend’s birthday is coming in September and I don’t know what to get him. Ive been flip flopping between a mini-vacation to Disney (he’s never been) or a camera……..

Would you consider getting him Ski boots or a gift certificate and taking him to the restaurant for his birthday.

@hilsy85: Another idea — is there anything extra special that he might want to do on the honeymoon, that you might not otherwise do?  Like, my fiancé really wants a couples massage on the honeymoon ($275 through our cruise), so I might spring for that as an early bday gift for him.  You could do a “fake” gift certificate for that (whatever special treat/experience he might want), and take him out for a nice dinner on his actual birthday (but somewhere less pricey than wd-50).

Then again, I don’t know about you guys, but we rarely go out for fancy dinners these days (our anniversary in February might have been the last time!) with the wedding so close, so a fancy dinner would be welcome to me!  We still do date nights, but I can’t wait until after the wedding when I feel comfortable going “hog wild” on a special dinner. Phew, it’s been a LONG time!

I would suggest the ski boots, if you know he is going to use them.

My BF’s birthday is on Sunday; I’ve bought him a nice watch which I had engraved with “For the love of my life”.

I like that idea to especially since you say he’s working long hrs.

Sounds like he’s gonna have a wonderful bday.
