We had 4 days without power after Hurricane Irene. Many of my friends around MA were without power this weekend because of the storm. It sucks 🙁

3 days – in Maryland we had a really big ice storm when I was growing up and we lost power for a few days.

This was my longest stretch also – 5 days.  At least when I lived at home with my parents, there was running water, and gas stove so the only in convience was no lights and heat.  Not a big deal.  Unfortunately I’m in a well water town now so that meant no running water either… and no gas lines, so electric stove was out too.  And we learned the hard way that our house is on pretty low ground so the water table is high and after 2 days of no sump pump, the basement was about to flood.  We saved it by scooping water out from when I got off work 10pm until 7am the next morning when we found a homedepot that had generators in stock.  Except for the impending flood, the outage wouldnt have been that bad.

During Irene we lost it for almost 24 hours and I was about ready to freak the f out. I do NOT cope well without power. I don’t know how the people in PA who still don’t have power from Irene are able to manage. This chick would be cleaning out her savings account to stay in an unaffected hotel until further notice.

Maybe a week or a week and a half?  Our power used to go out all the time when I was younger and lived in a really rural area.  We used to camp out at my aunt’s house because she had a wood burning stove.

Since adult-hood, we’ve only had the power go out once for a long period of time; it was about 24 hours last New Year’s when we had a monster storm roll through.  We were actually packing up to go to a hotel for the night (we have a baby and gas/electric heat) when the electricity finally came back on.  Ugh, it was a major pain.

Several years ago we had a hugeeee ice storm. I lived in the Poconos and power goes out all the time, but this ice storm was really bad and the power was out for 2 weeks. Heating wasnt bad because we had a wood burning stove but because everything was by well, water didn’t work, toilets wouldnt flush, you couldnt brush your teeth or shower, you couldn’t cook food. It was horrible. I had to drive to my aunts house 90 minutes away to shower

Only a day for me.  Even after tons of snow and ice or big stroms, IN always seemed to get the power back on pretty quickly.

I’ve never lost it for more than a few hours here in TX (although the rolling blackouts during last winter’s ice storm were annoying).

During Katrina, my parents didn’t have power for almost 3 months. I was there for the first week or so after the storm before we left for Texas, then I came to PA. So for me personally, a week, but my parents couldn’t go home for months.

@ashleyyyg: yeah, the lack of running water and not being able to cook was a pain.  I ended up showering at work, buying drinking water to brush with… and I brought my slow cooker to work to make food too!  haha.  Luckily I had access to water and power somewhere near by.
