@MrsCoachBtoBee: I have one pair of shorts that I wear in public and I bought them at Old Navy. Give them a try, they’re pretty cheap πŸ™‚

You could buy a pair of pants and have them altered. Cut them off at the place you want them and the hemming should cost you like $10.

Oh gosh, I have stumpy short legs and have the worst time finding shorts. Darling Husband got me a pair of short shorts from Vickie’s (London Jeans) that actually look all right, I was surprised. Still working on longer shorts though…

I love J. Crew’s shorts. They tend to be a little bit longer and fit a little higher in the waist. I’m also kind of self-conscious about my thighs, but I feel really comfortable in my J Crew shorts…they’re very flattering!

@MrsCoachBtoBee:I could have written this post πŸ™‚  I have the same exact problem.  My thighs are huge and so is my butt, but I’m athletic.  I hardly ever wear short because I can’t find pairs that fit me right.  πŸ™

I got some shorts last year at the Ann Taylor Loft outlet that fit ok.  I also have a skort from Lands’ End, where the shorts underneath fit fine.

I usually just stick to sundresses and skirts in the summer for this reason Cool

Good luck!

I buy all my shorts at Old Navy. Both the shorter shorts (5″ inseam, not booty shorts) and the longer bermuda type shorts. They are so comfy I wear them all the time. I used to work at a dog kennel and did a lot of moving around and stuff, and could wear them without ever having any problems.

I have the same problem and just went to JCPenney and found 2 pair! In the junior section, they have longer shorts now (Thank God) but not super high waisted like the ones in Misses or Women’s. So it was a win-win, and half off! Good Luck!

I have thicker thighs and a larger rear too! : )  You’re going to have to try on LOTS of shorts and find shorts that are cut for women with larger thighs and a smaller waist. You will get to the point where you can hold up a pair of shorts/pants and just see that the thighs are not wide enough.  Also, when you hold up a pair of shorts/pants if the waist doesn’t curve inward from the hips don’t even waste your time trying them on. My best fitting shorts are made by Canyon River Blues found at Sears and Dockers found at various retailers.  You didn’t ask but for pants I swear by Larry Levine found in Philene’s Basement and other stores.  If the tag says Larry Levine I know I don’t even have to try them on!

@MrsCoachBtoBee: well you should give it a try. my sister is thicker on the bottom and things from this store work for her. I’ve shopped their my entire life, they make all of their pants in tall, they also make all of their stuff in different cuts, and there is one time that has more leg and booty space.

I buy all my shorts at Old Navy, they have a great selection of styles. My favorites are the longer Bermuda shorts.

I very, very rarely wear shorts besides gym shorts around the house… but when I do they’re either from the Gap Outlet (I never have luck in a ‘real’ Gap store) or Old Navy, or Walmart πŸ™‚

I buy elastic waist from Walmart. Comfy and always fit.

I hate finding shorts! I don’t want booty-shorts but I don’t want bermudas.  the only place I can get shorts that are just-right seems to be j. crew.  I did find some from bcbg that were on sale for $30– which sucks but at least I have a pair of decent shorts now.
