We’ve been looking for a mountain home rental for this week and aren’t having much luck. I’ve checked the Chamber of Commerce site to see what’s going on in the area, but it doesn’t look like there’s anything special. Is it Spring Break week or something else? Any insight would be appreciated.

I have not heard of anything going on but i’m not in the mountains. College spring break ended (for most here) last weekend and public schools will either be out next week or the following (around easter)
What part of NC were you looking? I love going to the mountains and renting a cabin 🙂

Thanks. We have a list of the areas we want to see, so anything near Asheville, Black Mountain, Boone, Hendersonville….we haven’t been to that area before so are relying on the map. So many places are booked, it looked like it does when summer is in full swing. We thought this was a good off-season time to get away, but not so much, it seems.

I love boone and asheville though i think you will find much more to do in asheville than boone. Boone is very much a college town but there is a lot of great hiking, like grandfather mountain.
Another place to look might be Banner Elk – its really close to boone and where all the ski slopes are – since ski season is pretty much over you may find some cabins available there.
Have you ever used vrbo? its not a bad place to start looking and they seem to have a few cabins available starting saturday.
like this one is not too far from boone

I have, and am also looking on HomeAway. We want pet friendly (also an issue and not that many), and am looking at larger properties. Some of the smaller ones are just too small, especially with a dog.
Thanks for the help and the info about the cities. I’m still looking!

These are 2 places that we have stayed at before. Both are pet friendly. The Asheville Swiss Chalets are not mountain cabins, they are small houses in Asheville that the woman has had renovated.
