The poll speaks for itself – I flip flop on giving cash (seems impersonal), vs. a gift (not really sure what the person wants, to a gift card (I rarely use gift cards – even when it’s a store I go to all the time).
So… what say you, hive?

Cash is always welcome. (says the broke 22 year old) because sometimes, if this person is anything like me and DH, even money that was inteded to be for fun really NEEDS to go to not fun things, like grocerys or that sudden expensive and unexpected dr bill, or some cute new boots. Gift cards are nice if you really know the person shops there a lot, but I also tend to forget i have them when I finally actually get to the store they are from!

Show me the money!
ETA: Oh, oh. Brother-In-Law just turned 22 on Monday and we got him $22.22. I’ve done it randomly for friends since I was 16 because it’s a cute way of saying, “I thought about this.” Lol.

I love getting presents the same way that I love giving presents; it feels more thoughtful. Of course, I won’t say no to money 😉

I am a 28 year old, and I STILL love getting cash 🙂 The easy way to personalize it is to buy an awesome card to put it in!

I’m 25, and for this very reason I have an Amazon wish list full of things I will never buy for myself! Cash is great, but I love opening gifts!

I know I’m the odd one out here, but I really love getting physical gifts and seeing the thought put into them.

I am only a few years older and I can assure you I still want cash! – it is not impersonal I often just end up feeling guilty people spent money on a gift I will never use. Go for the cash and consider a fun way of presenting it. But a puzzle box and put it inside so they have to solve the puzzle to get it out. Or get a clear balloon and fill it with smaller bills rolled up and some confetti so they have to pop it to get the money. Things like that are always fun, no matter how old you get!

If I get cash I put it into my student loans. If I get a gift, I get something to enjoy right now. Do you need suggestions for gifts because I am a progifter.

@oracle: Cash. If you don’t know what this person would want, there’s no point buying a gift they may not like.
Just go w. cash. At 22 I would have loved any extra cash – I was just finishing university lol.
