Hey guys. I posted a while back about my NYC City Hall wedding dress, and Im very excited to share with you the photos of our big day.
My husband and I met in Turkey while I was teaching there for a summer. Just a month after my return to the states he joined me here in New York, and weve been building our relationship and marriage ever since. We are incredibly happy, and are now planning our receptions for 2013. We will have one party in New York State (location TBD — more on that in another post) and one in his hometown of Mersin, Turkey. Exciting stuff!!
In any case…. Our photos: (Sorry they are so huge, Im not working on my own laptop!!)
Waiting for our number to be called for our ceremony.
After the ceremony we went across the street to the Wedding Garden for some photos:
This was taken at the Supreme Court Building:

Beautiful dress! And you looked like you were glowing that day 🙂 Love the pictures! I have a few questions since I also live in NYC and may be interested in having a civil ceremony this spring.
1. Is that the only city hall you can get married in, in NYC?
2. Was the wait long and were there a lot of ppl getting married when you were there?
3. How long was the ceremony?
4. How far is Brooklyn Bridge Park from city hall?

Diana, I was happy with my ceremony at City hall, but there was a lot of waiting involved. The wait for the marriage license was much longer than the wait for the ceremony. Everyone in NYC needs to get there marriage license at city hall (unless you travel to another location in NY state). They have a pretty good system at the Manhattan location (NOT in Brooklyn — more on that later) wherein you get an A-number, B-number, or C-number. A is for licenses, C for ceremony, and B Ä°m not sure…. Ä°n any case, you wait for your # to be called.
There were a lot of people there getting married each time Ä° was there. I actually liked that, though, because it was really interesting to see all of the different kinds of brides, families, etc. and the feel of it is just really happy. Most everyone is there due to celebrating one of the happiest days of their lives.
For the ceremony we probably waited less than an hour. The actual length of the ceremony was pretty short. We exchanged rings, repeated the justice of the peaces vows (we didnt prepare our own, though you can) and thats about it. Short, sweet, and to the point.
As far as Brooklyn Bridge Park goes… Its not very far, but it was almost impossible to get a cab to go there. It was not far enough for them to make much money off of us, and it was lunchtime. Finally we hailed a guy who has never refused anyone, and just myself, my husband, our photographer, and his cousin went with us. Everyone else stayed behind and met us at the restaurant.
Now, about the other city hall. We needed original copies of our wedding certificate for immigration purposes. I figured I would go to Brooklyn Borough Hall because there would likely be less people there and the wait would be less. Wrong. I waited there for 3 hours, standing on line. They have no system for people there for different purposes… You are not given a number, you cannot sit and wait for your turn (maybe you can if youre there for ceremony — not sure). Ä°t was horrible. When I complained they said “We are just a borough.” Also, the manhattan location is newly renovated and the BK location is disastrotrous compared to Manhattan.
Hope that is helpful!
