We just started planning a May 2009 wedding ( no date set yet but that’s what we would like) in NYC or alternatively Southern Westchester. I am looking for venue for small-ish wedding ( 60-80 ppl) and would prefer to stay in 130-160 pp area. Does anybody have suggestions ?
So far I’ve looked at Blue Hill at Stone Farms, Battery Gardens and New Leaf Cafe.
Thanks for help.

Try Penthouse 15 or Loft Eleven in midtown west. Each venue holds about the number that your guest list specified and while they are just an event space, they have a list of recommended vendors who have worked well with the venue before. One of their recommended caterers, James Catering, was within your price range, but there are plenty of others on their list that may work for you as well, such as Movable Feast out in Brooklyn. Definitely negotiate the site fee.

NY Magazine has a very comprehensive list of venues in Manhattan. I swear it’s over 15 pages long…print it and have at it!
(sorry I dont have the link but it’s on there. If you have trouble finding it, just pm me)

Did you like Battery Gardens and New Leaf Cafe ? We are also planning our wedding and yet haven’t found the venue.
Good luck !

Luluzip – I haven’t checked them out in person yet. I got some info from both though.
New Leaf – doesn’t have AC but it’s reasonably priced ( starts at 150pp). no May 2009 availability ( not sure what date picked)
Battery Gardens – it’s all in for 5hr reception incl 1hr coctails. that seems a bit too short but maybe that’s standard ?
Were you able to come across any interesting venues in your search ?

We’re looking to do a 700-100 person (100 being the max) wedding which is for strange reason is considered pretty small. I suspect we may have similar issues with sizes of spaces I totally agree about getting the latest NY Mag Wedding as they gave many venue listings.
Battery Gardens – I was actually told that there was a minimum for weddings of 100 people during the day and 125 in the evening. If anyone has heard otherwise, please let me know. Also I was told in the evening that their events are from 6-12. Their day option is 11-4.
River Cafe – in Brooklyn. Not cheap (AT ALL!) but beautiful view and good food.
Top Deck at Seamen’s Church Institute
Bubby’s Brooklyn – If you are willing to go a little over 80 you can get he whole restaurant and they are pretty affordable.
Also there are other spaces, which are empty loft-like spaces like Smack Mellon in Brooklyn and The Foundry in Queens.
Anyway, I hope this helps!
