we’re using Yun Gen Yang, we’re taking out engagement pictures on Sunday so no first hand experience yet. I stalk his blog and fell in love his prices are very reasonable and he is super nice! http://www.yangphoto.com

I second Yun Gen Yang!  We took our engagement pictures with him in May and loved loved LOVED how our pictures came out!  He’s a young, talented, and very cool guy.  And his prices are very reasonable.  Unfortunately, he was already booked on our wedding date when we learned of him, so we’re using another photographer for our wedding.

Kella MacPhee!  She’s a NJ shore area person, but she’s shooting our wedding in north Jersey (literally a few minutes from the NY border) and I’m sure she’d go into NYC.  She’s super fun, very affordable, and a great photojournalist photog.  I’m sure she would have no trouble with a Thursday.  Definitely check her out!

I can’t recommend Erich Camping highly enough. He is actually based in Rochester, but travels anywhere in NY state for FREE. He shot our wedding this June and people cannot believe how amazing our photos turned out. He is also just the nicest person you could ever want to meet–my family was ready to adopt him on the spot!

His website is http://www.campingphoto.com .

Here is the link to our teaser photos on his blog:

Good luck!

Another person to check out is Michael Chansley.  Not many people have heard of him, but he starts out around $2400 and is VERY good!

A friend from the knot boards (carrieland) used an up and coming photographer last year — Julia Newman (http://www.julianewman.com/).   She was just staring out so she might be reasonable or willing to negotiate on a Thurs. night as the likelihood of having to turn other work away would be slim.

Also, Tony Yang might be an option.  His package is now $3000.  http://wedding.knsaber.com/intro.php.  He took my b-pics and shoots weddings as well.  Great guy and very talented.  He shoot the stunning wedding of our own Mrs. Ant.  His website says he only shoots Sat. weddings, but it NEVER hurts to ask!

Yun Geng Yang is definitely a good choice, and there are a few other recommended photographers on the ISPWP website that list their prices at or near your budget level.

The ISPWP site also lists photographers who travel to New York who may turn out to work better within your budget also.

Good luck!

Here is a good list of New York Photographers, some of which are at or near your budget:

http://www.ispwp.com/new-york-wedding-photographers

It also lists other photographers who travel to NY so that may be another option if they fit your budget and style better. Good luck!
