I went to RK Bridal when dress shopping, and somehow I was able to negotiate the cost of alterations into the dress price so that I wouldn’t have to pay extra. I ended up buying my dress elsewhere however, but they also did the same thing and I negotiated the alterations into the dress price (so they shaved off $300-$400 off the total price).

I remember being quoted RK’s “flat rate” of $500 for alterations – so maybe you got a slightly better deal? Either way, I always thought it was best to go with the seamstress at the boutique where there dress is from. But if you want an outside seamstress, I think you could do a search on wb.com and there might be some good referrals – think I’ve seen it before.

Good luck!

I bought my dress at a sample sale and went to Kiki Hronis who used to work at Vera Wang and now works in conjunction with J Scheer. She charged me $400 flat- I priced out a few places/people and $300-$400 and up seems to be the going rate.

I also bought my dress at RK bridal and paid 350 for alterations and 120 to make it sweetheart. So altogether I paid 470! 🙁 but I had a friend who went to Sew Elegance and had a wonderful experience there! I think I remember her saying she paid 250 for alterations. A slightly better deal.

@hardtoconcentrate:  I doubt it. But you can always ask. Mine doesn’t have a bustle and I didn’t ask. The sucky part is that I wasn’t sure who to go to so I was kind of stuck with RK bridal alterations since I didn’t want to take a chance with someone else. 🙁 good luck!

I had a good experience with a dressmaker in Brooklyn if you are looking for a more personal touch: http://theweddingdresser.com/
