We had our wedding at Oakhurst last May, and I wanted to give you some things to look out for based on our experience- not that it will have anything to do with the current coordinator, but hopefully helpful! Our coordinator was awful, but she was replaced a few months after our wedding….

Based on our issues with Oakhurst, I would make sure that:

They follow up quickly to phone calls or email (ours would take up to 2 weeks to respond)

Make sure you get what you discuss- we were supposed to have 2 bars and two bartenders on opposite sides of the dance floor and had one bar & one bartender (who did kick ass, but still!). We didn’t know about the bar issue until we got to the venue after the ceremony, and by then it was really too late to do anything about it.

If you have anything that will need to be done between dinner & dancing, make sure that there will be people there that will be able to carry out anything that needs to be done- and if possible get the name of the person responsible for doing it. We had to ask someone to have the appetizer table removed from the dance floor after dinner. Really?

Make sure someone is in charge of collecting your items at the end of the night if you don’t want to deal with it or are too….tired :).  Our cake knife & server went missing among other things.

Let them know how you want your leftover cake stored- they put my topper on the plate of what was left of our cake and covered the whole thing with saran wrap even though I had a box for the topper with my name on it with all my stuff. I had colored fondant balls on my cake that were put on the topper and stained it.

Most importantly, you should make absolutely sure that they have your meal choices correct- and confirm the day before or the day of. We ordered prawns with hotel butter with filet, and they served tiny coconut shrimp that looked like they had been chewed. We had our tasting a few months before with Chef Joe, who assured us he would be there on the day of supervising every plate, but that was crap.

We fought with Oakhurst for 6-8 months about the lost items and bad food, and got back $1,000 from them.

I don’t want to freak you out, and I’m sure your experience will be much better, but I just wanted to share what happened to us to give you some things to look out for!

I am in the same boat. The change of staff is making me crazy. Not to mention that their contract was extremely vague and didn’t spell out what was included at all. The only thing it says is you must spend a minimum of *blank*, the date and the time. Its a beatiful place but the lack of concern for returning phone calls and emails is stressful to say the least. I met with the new wedding corrdinator and still I feel like my questions haven’t been answered and they don’t take me seriously. I heard from a friend that the dance floor was old and not in good repair but her wedding was a few years back so I am not sure if it has been replaced or not.
