When I first got engaged a work friend looked at my ring and said hmm, well not everyone in our corporate environement NEEDS a big diamond. (Gee thanks). And jus today I had a friend randomly suggest trading in my ring for a quote honking rock. My stone is an heirloom, thanks – there will be no trading.

I am recently engaged and I’ve been asked why I haven’t announced it on Facebook. Part of the reason is because I know many people will ask to see the ring and I’m already sick of explaining myself over it! I am not a jewelry person, the rare times in my life where I’ve worn a ring I banged it on everything (I’m exceptionally clumsy) and it just wasn’t comfortable to me. If I’m wearing a ring for the rest of my life, I want to like it!
So I chose a band with channel set diamonds as my engagement ring, and will get a different type of band for my wedding band. I LOVE my ring… it is simple yet beautiful and the sparkle factor is great! But women either give me the “that’s cute” comment or think that my Fiance was cheap. The diamonds on my band are certified, IMO it wasn’t that cheap – but most importantly it was exactly what I wanted. He could have afforded something more extravagant but that’s not how we roll (haha)… there are lots of other things we would rather spend money on. I’m just tired of explaining that to people, or NOT explaining it and getting that pitying look. I’m really happy with the ring and moreso with what it means – people shouldn’t be shallow and try to put a damper on it!

stacyreeves : If your diamond looks like it’s colored you need to go back to the jeweller. You may have been a victim of a switch or a fraud.
