Hello! Former oboe player here (and current wedding vocalist and pianist). Oboe would be beautiful for walking down the aisle and ceremony type stuff. Please be sure to hire a professional— it’s a very difficult instrument, just want to make sure you get the best quality music :).

I think for a reception, even just the cocktail reception part, I would go for more upbeat music. A pianist with a vocalist would work for a relaxed and low key (but still up beat) vibe. Saxophone and piano doing some jazz would also be great! Oboe really sounds best for classical music, so that’s why I feel it would fit best for the ceremony.

Other unique options for cocktail hour:

singer & guitarist

flamenco guitarist

jazz guitarist (usually will “loop” chord progressions and play over them, can sound cool!)

vox & piano

Vox, guitar, cajon (or other percussion. This would be THE BEST. My favorite gigs to do. High energy vibe but still really soft by the nature of the instruments. Can play literally any genre of music this way.)

other unique options for ceremony:

classical guitarist (SO beautiful)

cello and pianist

violin and guitar

hope that helps!
