- Wedding: Disneyland - January 2016
So…I really love the way our engagement/wedding photos came out. I’ve never taken professional photos before and even though I’m usually pretty camera shy, it really makes me happy to look back over them. But sometimes I look at other people’s photos and I think, ‘Man, I wish we had done that!’
Then I started to wonder, is there a reason I still can’t? Yes, my engagement is over, I wouldn’t be taking “engagement photos”, but is it terribly silly to take professional photos with my husband just because we want to? I feel like the only reason people ever have a professional photoshoot after a wedding is for maternity photos, and since I don’t plan on becoming pregnant/a mother, those are obviously out. So what other reason is there? I would love to take some boudoir pictures someday, but obviously those are a very different style of photo than something I would take with my husband.
So, your thoughts? I’ve never been a fan of cheesy family portraits and I know I’d want to pay for something more artistic and high quality. But for what? Just so I can have them? Is that stupid?

I’ve seen anniversary shoots!

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having professional photos done “just because.” You could do a 1 year anniversary photo shoot if you really wanted a “reason” to do one.
But no, there’s no reason you still can’t do it. I say go for it!

I don’t think it’s stupid at all because I’ve begun to think the same thing. I thought it would be over with the enagement and wedding shoots but I wasn’t completely happy with how my hair/makeup turned out on my wedding date and it got me to thinking on possibly doing an anniversary shoot in my wedding dress (I saw someone else do that on FB before and hadn’t considered it till now).
Also, they do shoots for when you’re pregnant, and of course with your babies (their birthdays, ect). That is if you’re planning on having kids.
I think why not, if you can afford it and it makes you happy go for it 🙂 We will only look this young now lol I was actually just looking at old childhood photos and looking at pictures of my parents and they were so young and beautiful. You’d be paying for capturing moments in time 🙂

Omg, an anniversary shoot in my dress would be amazing! I’ve been struggling deciding on what to do with my dress, and I’ve considered shorting it to tea length as the bottom tulle is basically trashed, but I just kept thinking…even short, would I really ever wear it again? This would be a great excuse!
Keep the ideas coming! 🙂

Anniversary shoots for sure, I was going to say maternity/family but you mentioned that’s not on the table.
I know hubby and I are planning on doing a ‘just because’ shoot when we both hit our goal weights because for our engagement/wedding pictures he really isn’t happy with himself.

Holiday card photo shoots!

In my area, a lot of people get them done in Fall and use them for Christmas cards!

I know quite a few couples who have done “adventure” photo shoots after their wedding and they look amazing! Check out Charleton Churchill for some ideas.

No reason needed! If you want to have a shoot done, then do it! Sometimes people do vacation photo shoots. When I was in Mexico, one of the excursions had professional photographers take pictures when we were on the beach waiting. We did like a 30 minute session with a photographer which was pretty cool seeing as we didn’t expect to, but we got some great photos!

You can always have professional photos done. I’m a professional wedding photographer and I photograph anniversary and couples sessions all the time. Likewise, I make my DH have photos taken every year of us for our Christmas cards. 🙂

Christmas, maternity, newborn, and family portraits!

We always get professional photos done – Christmas, maternity, new born, family portraits, anniversary. I’ve even seen photographers at gender reveals, first birthdays, parties, etc.
