Several people have PM-ed me about the Ocean Maya Royale. This is my Tripadvisor Review: Beware!
It is almost unbelievable that I am writing this-as a result of our stay our home became infected with BEDBUGS. Our stay was fine-the restaurants are not that great but we had a good time and the day-to-day staff is very personable. The general furniture is pretty nasty though, especially in the reception area.
The problem started with getting bitten every night while we stayed at this hotel. We thought it was mosquitoes. WRONG. We know now that it was bedbugs. Our bites continued after we came back from our vacation and after wondering what could be causing it we brought in an independent canine inspection company AND the highest rated extermination company on Angie’s List. Both dogs went straight for the suitcases we had brought back from Mexico, the bed on which my husband placed the suitcase and the bureau in which he dumped clothes we had cleaned by the hotel. I attempted to call H10 hotels to get the cost of our stay refunded but they blew me off (“Well, maybe you can email the hotel manager to discuss this..it’s not really our problem.”)
I am horrified at the cost of extermination. Had I known that this hotel had BEDBUGS I would have spent the extra 5K to go to another hotel because the ultimate cost of my vacation was significantly higher due to adding on the extermination of a bedbug infestation as a result of staying at the Ocean Maya Royale.
Do you enjoy being bitten by bedbugs every night and then bringing them home to ruin your lovely homes? Then please, feel free to stay at this hotel. If you would like to stay bugfree, or at least deal with a responsive management who feel that their duties extend to taking care of their hotel and not infesting your home with an expensive pest, choose some other place. I will never stay at this hotel again-not only because it has a bedbug infestation, but because the attitude after I noted the problem to them was so cavalier. This isn’t a mosquito bite, it’s a bedbug for god’s sake! I really hope people read this review and a) either choose to save themselves or b) the hotel management decides to fumigate their hotel and attempt to control their bedbug issues.
Nice honeymoon. We ended up with the insect equivalent of a venereal disease. God only knows when we’ll be rid of them.
I have added “Service” as very good only for the lovely hotel employees we dealt with regularly. If you think I am the type to complain for no good reason, look at my other reviews. I tend to rate highly and was fully prepared to do so till a bedbug canine specialist zoomed in on our suitcases and went nuts and they opened them up to find them in there. I’m going to go vomit now.
