@kansas_nurse:  So far, I have my venue booked and my photographer booked.  The venue has its own caterer so I am all set there.  We just got our engagement pictures done, and I’m starting to look at save the dates that I like.  I have about 1/2 of my centerpieces.

Here’s what I want to do next:

Send save the dates, and pick out attire for everyone (I want to pick out my dress in Jan).  I feel like my planning will be put on hold until the holidays are over!

    Let’s see…in order, I think of booking.

Photographer (friend)…booked, contract, even though he’s a friend

    Planner (also florals)…booked

    ETA: Bar Service…booked!

Dress…purchased, should be here in February. Also bought and received custom veil, shoes, and half price headpiece and sash (woot!!)

Caterer…deposit paid, still need to finalize contract for vendor meals (otherwise they bill us the pp rate, and frankly…no can do!)

Hair and Makeup…Fiance is sending check this week

Rentals…selected, waiting to hear from planner on deposits, also need to try to cut some costs here

Cake…narrowed down to 3 bakers, tastings Monday after Thanksgiving

Invitations…a friend is going to design them, we are pow-wowwing as soon as this semester is done, and hope to send to the two (maybe three) possible printers mid-late January, so save the dates can go out in February.

As far as design/palette goes, I’m taking it as it comes! We picked out tan/ivory/seamist linens, boys are going to be in blue, and I’m working on a mismatched palette for bridesmaids. I’m still undecided on how bold I want floral colors to be, although I am LOVING greenery right now.

Tiny bits of bridesmaid drama…lost one, but as a friend, not just as a bridesmaid. Sucks, but moving on. My other girls have been God-sends.

Oh, and narrowing down places for a bachelorette!

@MrsConnolly2bee:  maybe super obvious, and I’m assuming yes, but all the tables and chairs are through the venue?

    Also, don’t forget accessories!

I feel like we are right where we need to be at the current moment, as there is alot of things we CAN’T do yet [order the food, can’t book the ceremony space until Jan 1st, ect ect].

Our wedding budget is around $21,000 with the honeymoon, but I hope to keep it much, much lower than that!

Wow! Reading yours and the comments of previous posters makes my stomach feel a bit queasy! I’ve only just now booked my ceremony and reception venue yestday. The minister of the church is doing the ceremony, so there’s no need to book an officiant. My reception venue includes the cake through a third party, catering,  bar service, and standard linens (with the option to rent specialty linens). We have not finalized a color scheme or the wedding party.  I did go try on dresses a few weeks back, but at the time I didn’t have a venue, so now I need to find a dress that is fitting. A second-cousin of mine DJ’s, and I asked him if he could be our DJ and said yes but that was months ago and we haven’t spoken since then. Not to mention, I feel a bit awkward about it because we aren’t close, and he probably would not be attending otherwise. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything that has to be done, and I’m the type to stress out over the smallest of details. I fear this may overshadow the joys of being engaged and planning a wedding.

@FutureMrsMonit:  Don’t feel overwhelmed! This is why I made a super long, organized list. Every few days I pick off a few things from my list I want to accomplish, whether it be something small or large.

So far I haven’t had really any stress at all [well, a bit of stress because I thought we were inviting around 70.. but our list is current 100+].

    @kansas_nurse:  Wow, you’re doing well!

    We have…

    – Booked the church and reception venue (reception venue provides catering too)

    – Booked Photographer

    – Booked florist, and church florist

    – Bought my dress

    – Bought my ring

    – Asked all the bridal party people to be in the party.

Wow, that looks like less than I thought I’d done. I’m chasing my parents to get the number for the DJ, since they know a guy who knows a guy, and I’ve got the number for the lady who runs the church choir, so I need to call them too. My FH has an idea of what he’d like for a wedding ring, but he’s cool with not getting that til next year. He’s hoping to look in the sales for a suit.

I’ve basically selected the bridesmaid dress, and the girls all seem to like it, but we won’t order that until a bit closer to the time; same with the flower girls, we found a gorgeous dress for them at the store that I got my dress from.

I’ve been swimming a lot recently! Whilst part of my motivation is the wedding, I’ve been a bit antsy about my weight for a while, so it’s really about building good habits for the future and maintaining my body to be the way it should be, and the way I want it. I spent ages trying to get myself into running, and that just made me cross and unmotivated because I hate it, but I remembered that swimming is an exercise, and one I love, so I’ve been trying to go between two or three times a week (although only managed once the last couple of weeks because we’ve been busy), and swimming at least 1km a time. I’d like to swim further, I managed 1.4km in my session last week, but the problem with the location of the swimming pool is that when I go it’s hit or miss whether there’s loads of people there or not. I’m looking forward to the Christmas holidays when all the students go home and it quietens down! I reckon I could easily get up to 2km a time if it’s not busy.

I’m currently working on getting my bridesmaids boxes out, though. Picking out everything was super fast but man, shipping takes forever!

I got some super cute cigar boxes, ordered matching rhinestone shirts for my girls [non-wedding related], lip gloss, eye shadows, perfume, keychain, photo frame, cell phone dust plugs [cute ones], and mini coin purses.

Once I get everything in the box, I’ll close it, and on top put their bridal clutch, earrings & bracelet for the big day – and wrap everything all up in lace, with a tag that says, “will you be my bridesmaid?”.

    Can’t wait to finish them!

The wedding planning process has definitely been a learning curve for me when it comes to meddling relatives. At the beginning I used to get really upset every time my sister criticised my wedding choices- venue, date, flowers, cost etc. Now I don’t talk things through with her. I think she’s noticed and is now going out of her way to be helpful rather than critical 🙂

So! The things I have done so far:

    Booked venue
    Booked caterers
    Booked photographer
    I have my dress 🙂
    Ordered wedding bands
    Bought Flower Girl dress
Chosen other Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses
    Booked florist & ordered flowers
    Booked DJ
    Booked musician for ceremony/wedding breakfast
    Bought supplies to make invitations
    Booked hotel for night of

I think I’ve done pretty well so far. This is a list of things I still need to do:

    Book Cars
    Make invites
    Order jewellery
    Hair trial
    Makeup trial
    Pick veil/shoes
    Order suits for the men
    Buy thank you presents
Book honeymoon- we will be doing this last minute

I like that this list is much shorter!! Because I’m waiting for my ring to be made I’ve kinda stopped planning anything else.

Over the Christmas break I will be making the invitations. I will be ordering my jewellery and the other Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses in February. I’m quite enjoying the down time at the moment!
