Hello all! Well, I cannot say how ecstatic I am now that I have found WeddingBee–I can’t wait to share all the crazy madness we like to call “wedding planning” with all of you October brides! Well here goes nothing…
When is your wedding date?
October 13, 2012
How old are you/FI?
I am 23 and my fiancé is 24
How did you meet?
We met at college through mutual friends, we were both part of the Greek community and his fraternity/my sorority were directly across from the cul-de-sac we each lived on. A few mutual friends were saying that he had a thing for me and that I should invite him to our date party. So I did, and we hit it off immediately. The rest is history..
What do you/ Fiance do for a living?
I am a registered nurse at one of our hospitals, he works in the finance department of a local business.
What is your theme?
Fall! I have always dreamed of a fall wedding and I plan on using the goregous colors of fall (chocolate brown, deep purple, burndt orange, possibly some reds…) and we have picked out a beautiful cake that has a tree with leaves on it that uses these colors. Possibly looking into incorporating some monogrammed jack-o-lantern pumpkins at the reception for the “fall” theme.
What are your colors?
(see above)
How did he propose?
We had had so much pressure to become engaged from the majority of our family and friends (even so much that my dad had been trying to “start a wedding budget” and had told me that I need to start thinking about wedding plans)…so our proposal story works because every opportunity besides this one I thought something was up.. (even though I was convinced he didn’t have a ring bought)
He proposed when I least expected it–I had the most awful day at work the night before he proposed. I came home and was so upset over the night and since I work 2nd shift (and everyone, including my fiancee was asleep) and so I had noone to vent to. So, I stayed up til almost 6 am trying to get my mind off things. I woke up an hour later to him getting up to work extra on Saturday (it was month end in the finance department at his work). Earlier in the week I had accidently found hotel reservations at one of our favorite themed hotels in Kansas City and I kept bugging him to cancel them because I wasn’t feeling up to 3 hours of traveling when I had gotten so little sleep. Michael ended up working til nearly 6:00 that evening, and the poor man tried to make this grouchy girl cheered up enough to at least try to make it a good time. I was watching him pack him suitcase and saw him grabbing some dressier slacks and shirts and putting them in his bag. Knowing that my fiancee usually wears jeans and a t-shirt anywhere he can possibly get away with it, I joked with him “What are you going to propose to me this weekend?” We get in the car and we start driving to Kansas City. 3 hours later, we finally arrive at our hotel room and he asks me to close my eyes as we enter into our hotel room. When I open my eyes, I see him down on one knee with one of my big gaudy rings from the jewelry box “fake proposing”. I laughed and said “are you kidding me? I KNOW you don’t have a ring so get off the floor and let’s go eat”. We get to our table at the Cheesecake Factory (which as we sit down the hostess says that this is the “best table in the house”..don’t know how he planned that one). He immediately orders wine(which he never drinks, but always said he’d have a glass the night he proposes, I didn’t catch on to this) and so we sit and talk during dinner and he starts asking me “You would really say no right now if I asked you to marry me?” and I kept insisting that he didn’t have a ring so we didn’t need to joke about these kind of things. Dinner ends and we’re walking around the Kansas City plaza and I joke about us getting on a horse-and-carriage ride that my friend got engaged on last winter and said that I could only dream that that would happen to us. We continue walking around and we end up on a bridge overlooking a gorgegous river. We see a gondola ride and Michael tries to get me to ride on it and he says “If I had a ring then would you?” I said heck no cuz you don’t have a ring! Anyways the bridge is lit up with these bright lights and I can’t see Michael so I put my hand on his waist and feel a giant box in his pocket and I immediately freak out and Michael gets down on one knee and goes, “Well, it’s now or never” and spoke some sweet words and I was in complete shock. We were engaged!
