I agree with the comment about the dress – ORDER IT ASAP.  Mine is ordered off the rack and even so has taken months and months to come in.  (its not a custom order & its not couture either!)

@smilestorm:  I am exstatic that we are going to have a campground wedding! I’m going to plan lots of games because I doubt our group will do much dancing. I saw a cute idea on pinterest to have games at tables at the reception for people who don’t want to dance. I’ll also have some big group games and lawn games and such! We are going to do a campfire and smores bar and such! I hope this place works out, it’s right on the ocean!

I think I want to do a games table in the reception area where people can go grab games to take back to their tables! Here are some games I was thinking about:

  • Scattergories
  • Apples to Apples
  • Mexican Train Dominoes
  • Uno
  • Phase Ten
  • Cribbage
  • Farkle
  • Left Right Center
  • Poker
  • Pictionary

I also want to do some lawn games:

  • bocci ball
  • croquet
  • law tic tac toe
  • horseshoes
  • ladder ball
  • giant jenga if I can find it!

For smores we are going to have a variety of candy bars. Probably milk chocolate, dark chocolate, crunch bars, peanut butter cups, cookies and cream, caramellos, and I’m sure I’ll think of more later!

-Decorator

-Was in contact with the lady who was doing our cake pops

@smilestorm:  In my experience so far (I am also getting married in October) you need to book a DJ ASAP. I have called many that are booked a year in advance. You should also start trying on dresses and thinking about getting an order in by March/April.

@smilestorm:  hey there! so our date is October 18, and here’s what we’ve done so far.

-‘Vision’ created πŸ˜‰

-Venue booked

-Tent booked, still working on linens/chairs

-Caterer booked

-Photographer, videographer, and photobooth booked – book these as early as possible!

-Hotel room blocks secured

-Wedding website in progress (well, finished but only with the information I have as of now, no information on day-of transportation that we’re providing or anything like that yet but the tabs are there!)

-Registered

-Selected Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, setting up a date to go order them!

-Dress ordered, actually ordered it on 10/18/13, by pure chance! love it! Should be in sometime in July. Shoes ordered, yay!!! Although I want to change after all of the formalities at the reception, I’ve yet to sit down with my mom about it (she’s making that outfit)

-DJ booked – agree with PP, book this as soon as you’re able!

-Guest list finalized (THAT was super fun….. hahahahaha oyy)

-Designing my own Save the Dates, finishing those this weekend and then getting them printed in the next few weeks to mail out

-Booked ceremony musicians and singer (Catholic church ceremony)

-Completed Pre-Cana, in the middle of our meetings with the priest (there are only a few)

-Started thinking about venues for the rehearsal dinner

-Meeting with the florist next month

PHEW! I honestly can’t take credit for all of this, I did hire a wedding planner and she has been AMAZING! I’m probably ahead of schedule on some things for that reason. I’m pretty great at spreadsheets however πŸ˜‰

@smilestorm:  agh, i know! when i look at my budget i want to gag… but the things that FH and i decided were absolutely important to us were photography and videography. when we met with our videographer i just knew that i wanted footage from the day to watch, his style is BEAUTIFUL! I should also mention, I had always wished my parents had a video I could watch growing up. I’m not sure why πŸ™‚  It’s a decision between you to for SURE, but one thing I’ve been finding on here and with friends is that a lot of them regret not having a videographer. Some people don’t have them and are totally fine with it though! You could always set up a camcorder and have a sign asking people to record well-wishes? Or recruit one of your wedding party to film the ‘big’ stuff like your first dance, cake cutting, speeches, etc πŸ™‚

@smilestorm:  I planned my wedding in 9 months.  I got most of the vendors out of the way within the first two months so I could focus on other things.

  • photographer should be selected soon…. the good ones get booked up fairly quickly and to me this is the most important part of the wedding
  • hair and make up- decide if you want professional hair and makeup.  Also decide if your bridal party (if you are having one) wants hair and make up
  • dress
  • bridesmaid dresses (if you are having a bridal party)
  • florist or at least get an idea of what type of centerpieces and bouquets you want…… consider looking into what flowers are in season to cut costs
  • invitations and STD cards
  • wedding invite list
  • limos (if you need them)
  • honeymoon
  • officiant

@smilestorm:  If you got a bad vibe the first time around I would stick to the plan and find a new photographer.

There are boards on this website dedicated to certain areas of the country.  You might want to consider posting something there.

If you post something looking for a DJ or photographer on weddingbee and pinpoint your location, i am sure a bee will be able to help.
