Go for it and get travel insurance, or go for a resort that will allow you to cancel for any reason. I booked my November post wedding getaway to Cancun through a guy with timeshare weeks to spare. He can cancel any time up until day of. If there is a hurricane, all I’ll lose is my airline change fee.

Regardless of what time of year you go, definitely make sure you are getting “cancel for any reason” trip insurance that enables you to get your MONEY back & not just vouchers for future flights & resort stays.  That being said, if you are looking to go September or October, which is the height of hurricane season, there are usually some good values to be found b/c resorts realize that many people are afraid to travel during that time.  Hurricanes don’t just pop-up like an afternoon downpour.  Rather, they are announced several days in advance, so you’d have plenty of time to cancel if a hurricane was actually heading to your honeymoon destination.

Another good example of the benefit of cancel for any reason is that it truly saved 1 of our clients a few months ago when the bride couldn’t get enought time off work to go on her Tahitian honeymoon.  Instead of being out $11,000 for everything, they simply filed a claim with the insurance company & recouped all of their money less the insurance (at the time it was about $160 per person).  Not bad at all!  Most people probably prefer to only lose about $320 as opposed to $11,000!

Yeah, ours will be in September, so I am worried too – this is helpful!

I am going to the Western Carribbean for our honeymoon on October 16th! I know it’s hurricane season but I’ll just keep my fingers crossed.

We are going to the Caribbean on a cruise. I figured if there is a hurricane, they can go another route and get us out of the storm, but got insurance anyway. I was on a cruise in October one other time and the weather was fine. I think there might have been a tropical storm the next week.
