If you enjoy hiking, think about the north shore of Lake Superior in MN. Beautiful at that time of year!

Disney World is great in October.  The summer crowds are gone and it’s Food and Wine Fest at Epcot!  Plus it’s usually still warm enough to enjoy the beach and/or the waterparks.  No need to worry about a hurricane, we rarely get hit and the last time we got hit bad with Charley, Disney was back up and running the next day.  Hurricanes are much more dangerous along the coast, Disney sits practically in the middle of the State.  As a result, most hurricanes lose so much energy by the time they reach Orlando they are really just bad rainstorms with a lot of wind.

Please don’t plan your honeymoon in Florida in October. You are just begging for a hurricane!

I’m just south of LA and I highly recommend Southern California for October. It’s still warm but the beach towns aren’t busy. You’re close enough to Disneyland for a day trip, there are local wineries, live music, great food, museums, hiking, cute “old town” areas in most cities, touring Broadway shows, touristy fun spots, clubs, different cultural areas to explore… pretty much anything you want to do.

San Diego would also be nice.

North of San Luis Obispo it’s going to start getting colder, but still totally tolerable so a road trip up the coast to San Francisco would also be awesome. You could fly into LAX, spend a couple days here, go up to Santa Barbara (great B&Bs up there), do some wine tasting in SLO, head up to Monterey & go site seeing, spend a few days in SF and fly out from there. The trip can be made in a day, but even having made it several times, I could easily make a 2 week jam-packed trip out of it.

Come to Northern California. In general, the weather is spectacular in October, if slightly unpredictable. But this part of the state is generally pleasant and beautiful. There’s tons to do:

San Francisco

Muir Woods (giant redwood trees!)

Mt. Tamalpais (great hiking, ocean views)

Sausalito (cute town on other side of gg bridge)

Napa valley (great food and wine, good resorts I’m sure)

Lake Tahoe

A little farther south and you can see Monterey, Santa Cruz, some really lovely coastline. Go even farther south and you can see Big Sur, Hearst Castle, etc.

if you want one of the most gorgeous drives, you can take Hwy 1 along the coast up and down the state. It’d be a long road trip, but worth it.

We went to New Orleans around the same time last year as your wedding will be this year. Flying from Ohio isn’t too pricey or long, but it’s still far enough south to get some warm weather.

The weather was perfect but not too hot, and it’s a fun place right before Halloween, but before the crowds all come in for the holiday. We listened to a lot of amazing jazz music, ate a lot of great Cajun and Creole food, cruised the Mississippi on a steamboat, saw gigantic crocodiles, ate romantic meals by candlelight in centuries-old courtyards, and went on a haunted New Orleans tour.

@jpmurd09:  San Diego is one of my favorite spots!  You’re also pretty close to Temecula there which has wine tasting – could be a fun day trip.

ETA: Also there’s a lot of really great hiking in that area.

We’re going to Kauai for our honeymoon in October. Gorgeous beach setting without worrying about hurricanes!
