    One of my friends is involved in this community. He goes to several conventions every year and is involved in a local group. While he and the group members are super nice people, from what I’ve been told, those events would be kind of shocking for someone not involved in the community.

    @imalittlebirdie:  You dated a furry?

    And here I was embarrassed about having dated a dude who was still in a garage band in his 20s…

    I honstly don’t think you should go.

     I don’t think it would really be that much fun.

    If it’s not your thing, then you will probably be miserable. I mean, that is a culture all to itself. You’re either into it, or you think it’s crazy!

    @imalittlebirdie:  Don’t worry about it; I’m just teasing.  Everyone has to have some silly dating stories.

    About the invitation, I think it really depends on your sensibilities.  One thing you have to think about is that if your friends are members of this community, they will probably behave differently than they do with you.  You should probably think about whether your perceptions of your friends will change when you see them interacting with a fringe group.

    That’s so interesting… just from an academic point of view… I would go, and then maybe write some papers about it…

    But then, I am a social scientist!

    Well being from Pittsburgh, we (unfortunately or fortunately) host an anthrocon convention each year. I get to see people dressed up as animals walking down the street holding eachother’s tails. Hotel workers tell horror stories about their maids having to clean litter boxes that people actually poop in, like cats, instead of using the toilets. Some of those furries are intense.

    Yet another thing I’ve learned from the Bee…. Had no clue this existed.  Such a plethora of knowledge this place is. 🙂  I wasn’t sure how to vote, until I googled it.  Now I think I’d feel awkward, so wouldn’t go (but I wouldn’t judge others who did).

    I remember seeing the MTV show “True Life: I’m a Furry” and I’m pretty sure it scared me forever!
