honeylamb:  It’s not what most people are going for right now which is the one stone halo with pave diamonds. Yours is unique and people don’t know how to react to unique.

I’m fairly envious of your ring. It has an elegant simplicity to it.

If I saw it in person, I’d probably grab your hand and go “awww, man I should have gotten a bezel setting!” 😉

People are kind of douchie. Since you’re newly engaged, a lot of your friends and family members will directly ASK to see your ring. So even while it may not be their personal taste, a simple, “oh the stone is gorgeous!” would’ve been acceptable if they didn’t like the setting or something. It’s pretty awkward when someone asks to see your ring and then they’re all “that’s neat.”

I have a sapphire e-ring and when I first got it, I definitely got the whole “why didn’t he buy you a diamond” interrogation from people. It didn’t occur to anyone that maybe I didn’t WANT a diamond and that’s why I went with a sapphire; they just blurt out rude, dumb questions without thinking first.

I get how you feel because I got a lot of the “oh, that’s nice” reactions too. We don’t need to be showered in compliments over our e-rings but if you ask to see my damn ring, then have at least SOMETHING pleasant to say about it!

Your ring is stunning, literally one of the few rings that I’ve actually stopped and thought ‘wow that’s beautiful’ to. Dont get me wrong I think everyone here has pretty rings but yours was something a bit different from the usual, but it’s certainly not weird or something I could imagine anyone not liking. Honestly you should rock it with confidence, it’s gorgeous!

That’s a bit odd. I don’t like bezel settings generally but honestly your’s is really beautiful. In any case, if I asked to see someone’s ring, I would at least say something nice to be polite. Sounds like those people are either jealous, rude, or socially awkward. Don’t worry about it!

People are tripppppin! I’m not crazy about bezels, but yours, is truly a beauty. If I were to rock a bezel, it’d be yours. And in yellow gold?!?! MY FAVORITE!

I don’t usually like bezel’s but I really think yours is beautiful! If I saw it in person I would definitely tell you it was gorgeous.

It’s weird to me how people have been reacting to it because even if someone had a ring that wasn’t necessarily my style I would probablys till compliment it in some way. I would never just look at it and say nothing or say, “oh.” That’s super rude. Even if something isn’t what I would choose I would still say it was beautiful.

honeylamb:  Your ring is absolutely gorgeous!  I love the yellow gold, and I LOVE that he was able to encorporate family diamonds into the ring. Makes it feel so special.

That’s interesting to hear that you aren’t getting good reactions IRL. Honestly it took my breath away when I saw it. I love the big sparkly diamond with the delicate feminine band and the yellow gold just pops on you. It’s a beautiful ring!

People don’t know how to be polite. People can be socially awkward too, like they don’t know anything about the art of conversation…how to do basic ‘adult’ things like congratulate friends, extend sympathies, etc. (things that used to be common knowledge to an older generation).

Your ring is gorgeous. The bezel is one of the best parts. Bezels aren’t something from outer space, I have no idea why many have referred to it as non-traditional. A plastic ring pop would be non-traditional. A bezel around a diamond is what I call an option. I don’t think everyone can think outside of what they see in Kay jewelers. If you look at the history of jewelry, you’ll see a lot of bezels designs. It’s a classic.

Congratulations on your engagement and best of luck to you!

Just looked at your ring and returned to this thread just to tell you that I love it!!! Seriously. It’s so beautiful, simple, and tasteful. It’s gorgeous! People can be weird… Just ignore the non-comments. You have a lovely ring.

Honestly, your ring is one of my faves on the bee right now!  I LOVE it!

It’s true that I never saw a bezel until i started searching online for my own ring style, so it probably looks “different” to a lot of people.  But it’s different in a good way!  Breathtaking, even!  Clearly the people who can’t appreciate it don’t have style. 🙂 I can tell by your ring and even by your profile pic that you have excellent taste and style!  Don’t let other people’s lame reactions get you down!!

I will be the first in my group of friends to not have a diamond (I’m getting a pink sapphire) and yes, I’m a little nervous for what their reactions may be.  I’m hoping I don’t get any comments about “why didnt you get a diamond”, etc etc.  Because I’m sure it will sting a bit.  But I know i will love my ring, and that’s all that matters!!!

Your ring is perfect! I love it!…Why the odd reaction, IRL? Maybe they see solitaire and maybe halo styles as some sort of iconic engagement ring look etc… Heck, I had a garnet (my idea) as my first e-ring, so you can only imagine the looks I/we/he got. LOL

If/when I get a new setting, I want a bezel next time!

Enjoy that awesome ring! Best Wishes!
