So I’ve recently been into the idea of an OEC Moissanite as a center stone (before I was looking into more h&a but I think the prominent/dark arrows in the AG are turning me off to the cut- I didn’t like how much they stuck out in some lighting even though the sparkle is FIRE lol).
The only issue is the setting I’ve had my heart set on is a bit more modern- think Emilya Cushion Halo by Victor Canera, and I’m not sure how an OEC would blend in that setting? I’ve only really seen vintage style settings with OEC’s. Also I have heard that OEC’s (moissy or diamond) tend to have more color in them so I’m not sure how that would work with such a modern halo. Thoughts?
Anyone who has/had and OEC Moissy or even diamond (I’ve heard they’re pretty comparable) it would be awesome to hear your reviews on the stone in general (cut/color/performance). Feel free to post any pictures you wish to share!
I found these on Pricescope by anne_h and it’s similar (though a lot larger) to what I’m thinking.. I guess I’m just nervous the setting wont look right with a more old fashion cut, but I want something different! Everyone I know getting engaged has the round brilliant/oval with a halo or pave band.
I’m mostly worried about the center stone being a funky color and then having a totally white halo around it lol so I’m debating if I should maybe go for a plain band with claw prongs, but I might miss that extra bling!
bklyn18 : I am personally in love with my two FB OECs. I think they can be set into the halo like you desire! David klass, or another jeweler, can get melee in a lower color if you’re concerned about color matching. I wear my OECs with a baguette band that is very white and I barely notice the color difference. I realllly have to look for it!
May I ask…the soaring hearts isn’t not for you? I have thought about one but love chunky faceting.
Slick : Thanks! That’s super helpful, I’m actually in Los Angeles so maybe I’ll go pop down to see David Klass in the jewelery district and talk to him.
I loved the Soaring Hearts compared to the Ultra, it looked like a little star shining and I definitely noticed more crispness and depth in it! If I can’t find something else I love I would be happy with it, but I really didn’t like how prominent the arrows were in some indoor lighting so I’m starting to question if maybe I’m just not a H&A girl.
The cut is definitely thinner then the Ultra, but definitely not as thin as H&A Diamonds IMO. I haven’t seen the new Soaring Hearts Eternity though (literally can’t keep up with these new cuts).
bklyn18 : I think an OEC will look great in that sort of halo setting! I second going with David Klass, even better that you can go there in person! I would love to be able to do that! (He did one of my rings and I can’t recommend him more highly).
I have both an OEC diamond & a moissy. I love the chunky pastel flashes of the cut. Here are a couple pics:
I use to have a forever brilliant oec moissanite. out of the many rings I’ve had over the last few years, that’s the ring I miss the most. They are such an amazing stone with so much personality!! I think it would look absolutely stunning in a halo setting!
bklyn18 : Thanks! I love both stones. The diamond has a crisper sparkle with more white light return, though it is extremely firey. The moissanite has more of a rainbowy effect in certain lighting conditions. Like in Target it is very unicorn-magic-rainbowy, lol. I don’t know how else to describe it, but it is pretty for sure. The diamond is flashier with alternating white light/colored fire. The diamond has better luster. I’ve analyzed them to death though b/c I collect gems and crystals as a hobby. My aunt and uncle looked at both without knowing which was which and only 1 guessed right, so the moissy passed as a diamond. I’ve also had a jeweler think the moissy was a diamond and I had to correct them.
Slick : yes it is! He sent me the ‘glamour shots’ a few days ago which got me in a bit of a tizzy 🙂 thank you, I’m so happy with how it turned out!

bklyn18 : ahhh I typed a reply earlier with my photo but I’m not sure where it went. I purchased an oec moissanite from another lovely bee for a right hand ring, and David Klass made the setting. I haven’t seen the stone or ring yet, so I’m actually no real help to you – but I wanted to say that David Klass was great to work with, and I think an oec would look very nice in a halo 🙂
I’m using David Klass for my custom ering, but I live on the east coast, I think I’m going to get a loose OEC forever brilliant moissanite (1-1.5 carats, probably 1.25) from Schubach’s. Can anyone give me some rec’s for what I should ask for when they pick out my stone? I keep seeing terms like culets but I’m not very familiar with what’s the best for OEC stones. Thank you!
