Yay!! Congrats!!! I hope to be in the same boat as you in a few months. πŸ™‚

What to Expect Before You’re Expecting is a GREAT book. I bought that one myself a few months ago – there’s so much I didn’t know! I think just about any prenatal is good, you just need to make sure you’re getting the recommended daily amount of folic acid. But I think ALL prenatals have enough.

double check the folic acid amount AND make sure it contains DHA. The DHA isn’t important right off the bat with TTC but is during pregancy. If you can’t find one with DHA you can buy a seperate one called expecta lipil.

Yay, you! It is exciting but yes, somewhat terrifying too!

Any pre-natal that has at least 1mg of folic acid a day AND that doesn’t upset your stomach should be fine. Some women find the levels of iron in pre-natals a little hard on the stomach, especially once they get pregnant and might have some morning sickness issues. My OB prescribed me one (Preg-Vit) that has the iron and the calcium separated into the morning and evening pills, which aids absorption of both and also is supposed to be easier on the stomach.

Oh, and just a friendly warning, that book (well, all pregnancy books, really) is very informative but can make you unbelievably paranoid! My mom looked at mine and said she was glad she didn’t know any of that stuff when she was expecting. πŸ™‚

I use a prescription prenatal – its cheaper for me that way πŸ™‚ And I have had zero problems with an upset stomach.  The one I use is Citranatal Assure – it has two capsules per day – one vitamin w/folic acid and one DHA.  If you have a good prescription plan just ask your doc to prescribe something!

I actually got off BC a few months ago (starting in May) but I’m not TTC.  My doc said it was a good idea to get off if I’m planning on TTC within the next year.  (I was on the nuva ring, though, pills might be different.)

But yeah, it’s so weird not being on BC, it’s been so long.  I’m 26 now and I started BC when I was 17.

Congratulations!  I was on a prescription prenatal for six months leading up to TTC.  I was prescribed Duet DHA Complete and as long as I take it after I eat, I’ve had no stomach upset.  Like others have said, just call your OB/GYN and get a prescription for their favorite and see how that does for you.  The iron can upset your stomach so make sure you eat first.  I found taking it before bed works best for me.  Now that we are actually pregnant by OB has added additional vitamin C and D to my regimine.

Another good book is “Taking Charge of your fertility.” It is about fertility awareness and can help you conceive… and after birth… is able to be used as a natural birth control method… so you don’t have to go back on the pill.

How exciting! I am getting married exactly one year after you! I will be going off of BCP in September, and I am SO excited! I will actually finish my last pack 2 weeks before the wedding. It will be the first time I’ve been off BCP since my surgery to remove an ovarian cyst a few years ago… I’m nervous about coming off BCP because of the way my periods were before, but super excited about TTC! Good Luck to you!
