After many years on oral birth control, I’ve decided to give it a break and see how I feel without it. I’m not concerned if I gain weight but more about my skin!! Will my acne from my teenage years come back? I have decent skin, with maybe one little blemish a week so I’m nervous to see what will happen.
Any experiences about going off the pill and acne being terrible or maybe your skin got better? How long till it got cleared up?

Yup.. coming off the pill gave me the worst acne I’ve ever had, even worse than adolescence. Not only did my face get way worse, I now had body acne for the first time in my life.
I think the 5th month off the pill was definitely the worst month yet, but then somehow now the 6th month off was the best. So I really really hope this means its starting to clear up!

I was on the pill for 10 years and had super clear skin. I went off the pill over a year ago and only now am I starting to really get my skin under control. It was TERRIBLE the first several months after stopping the pill. I cried when I would take off my makeup it was that bad. I went to see a dermatologist and was prescribed something to help with the hormonal acne and excessive oil but I decided to try to incorporate only clean/natural products which has been a lot of trial and error. I still have a ton of little breakouts but they’re no longer painful, under the skin cystic acne and I’ve learned to live with it.

I went off the pill in March after being on it since I was 15 (15 years). I rarely broke out prior to going off the pill but my skin was awful 1-2 months after I went off. I managed to get the acne on my face under control by adjusting my skincare routine (which I can detail for you, if you would like) but the acne on my chest was relentless. I’ve spent most of this summer feeling self conscious and avoiding low cut tops 😕 I was finally able to see my doctor a couple weeks ago and he prescribed Tactupump, which has been a life saver. It’s very drying at first but after 2 weeks the difference in my skin was incredible.

I was on depo for 12 years and my skin definitely took a bit of a hit when I came off of it. But it literally lasted about 2-3 months and then started to clear up. Now it’s even better than it was while I was on BC.

Well, sounds like it might be a rough few months. Hopefully it wont be terrible. Im going to try and clean my diet up (which is for the best) and wait and see what my current skincare routine does when I start breaking out.
veganeh : yes please give me your products and routine!

Yeah, I’ve been off the pill since January, so 8 months and it is and has been bad for months. I’m really self concious of it now. Would love any pointers on getting rid of it. I use the Clinic skin system of liquid soap, drying astringent solution, and then face gel lotion for oily skin. It all used to work just fine on the pill but hasn’t since stopping BCP. 🙁
