I love what you have planned for the bridesmaids and groomsmen, but I am not sure if their theme matches with yours.  Yours to me looks more artsy/ethnic instead of old fashioned.

I agree — yours looks like renaissance fair or steampunk; the other looks…. animal print victorian? They don’t seem to match. If you had three words to describe what overall look you are going for, what would they be? That would help others narrow it down for you.

I would check out the steampunk patterns out there. I worry your BMs will look a little too matronly. The patterns available for steampunk cosplay would hit that great line between period and artistic.

I def. like that one better, but still seeing it as a bit more formal than yours. Yours is so fun — I’m not getting the whimsy in this Bridesmaid or Best Man choice.

I just realized what yours reminds me of now — gypsy, (not Ren Faire like I first said). Does Gypsy make sense to you? Or are you feeling yourself still pulled towards Victorian?

@secondchances: If you could find a middle ground between your first and this one I  think that could work well. The first silhouette is similar to what I see in some historical sidesaddle classes and it universally looks lovely.

(though I would I say that something is needed over the hoop so it isn’t as sharp)

(have you checked offbeat bride for some of their articles on steampunk?)

The colors are definitely contributing to the gypsy feel, but also definitely the corset-over-an-off-shoulder on top, it’s more daring, more loose, more gypsy  — but then yes, on the bottom, the bustle is more Victorian. The gypsy look would have a more layered full skirt.

The second dress is more Victorian inspired, esp the ruffled tight jacket top and the ruffled skirt. And the link for your Fiance is more steampunk which is Victorian inspired too. I think if you made the first dress a more corset feel with a jacket over it, (rather than off-shoulder cotton shirt) you’d be closer to Victorian there too.

A lot of this reminds me of late 70’s/early 80’s Stevie Nicks. If you are not familiar with her look then, google it. I think you’ll really like some of her outfits.

And don’t give up hope — I love vintage, offbeat stuff, always have. We didn’t have a name for goth or steampunk when I was younger, it’s all so fun. You have a wild vintage heart! You can make this work, it’s just going to take some refining.
