If you’re TTC anyway, I say go with the flow!

@ANewMrs:  “We’d rather you have the money now then when we’re dead.” — Well, at least they’re honest! Lol!

I see it as a tactless joke. I know very few parents who don’t want their children to give them grandchild, and the why it comes out can be offensive and awkward. I say go with the flow for now.

Not very nice at all.  We aren’t even officially trying to conceive yet and I think my in-laws have caught wind.  I am dreading their visit tomorrow.  Some people have no filter.

Wow. My ILs made a lot of comments about grandchildren before I got pregnant but I wish they offered us $25,000! I would have totally had a honeymoon baby for that kind of cash. 😉

Sorry, I am going against the grain. I see it as a harmless joke. Maybe it was the wrong timing since you guys are actively TTC, and that isn’t your fault if it hasn’t happened yet, but for someone like me who hasn’t tried yet if my mom said that I would giggle and tell her to simma down now! My mom is always joking around though.

It sounds, from your original post and post #6 that your Mother-In-Law is kind of a joker and not being a snarky jerk or anything. I’d take it as a joke.

@ANewMrs:  I don’t really think it was intended to be hurtful or out of line–maybe you’re being slightly too sensitive.

If you’re gonna have a baby anyways, it might as well be profitable.  That’s how the US medical system does it.

@megz06:   +1

I also think alot of people like giving out inheritances while they can see you enjoy it, and when  you need it.  So that’s not offensive to me either.
